“Cool... can be a good thing or a bad thing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

After a big lunch and a lot of sightseeing, we wondered over to canal St Martin for a casual light dinner. That's exactly what we got here. Very limited menu (four sharing plates, that's it) and staff are a bit too cool to provide service, especially at first. Wine and food itself were pretty good (great bread by the way), but not cheap. Chilean Carmenere from Luis Felipe Edwards was v good but €25 is a bit greedy. Buzzy place, good for friends to get together and soak up some trendy Parisian vibes.

“a real neighborhood spot, good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

We had lunch today at Chez Prune and for 14e each it was wonderful. For me, lunch included three vegetables (including a fresh tomato salad), rice pilaf with fresh dill and 2 huge slices of tender leg of lamb. My husband had a nice sized tuna steak with a ham garnish, a mushroom risotto and zucchini and broccoli. The vegetables were perfectly steamed. The wines were drinkable and inexpensive.. The claflouti was adequate. We have been in Paris for 3 weeks now and finding a local spot with good food and not exorbitant prices, has been a goal. After meals at toney Drouant, Les Itineraires and the like, we apppreciated the simple good food and fun ambiance of the slightly sleazy decor and the delightful banter of the waiter. A nice find and we will be back before we leave.

“Charmless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Chez Prune is almost always crowded. Conveniently located - a beautiful corner in front of Canal St Michel, it seems interesting at a first glance. It is okay if you seat outdoors only to have a glass of a good French wine and enjoy Parisian life. Forget it if want more than this.

“Classic cafe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

I had read a lot about this cafe and agree it was interesting but quite expensive even in Paris terms. In a good location though and worth a visit to the area - Canal St Martin really great

“Not great but not bad either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

The menu is limited to three or four main courses at this lively neighborhood bistro. The food was good, although not memorable and the service was perfunctory but efficient. I had a problem with the noise level -- this is not the venue for a romantic meal. We didn't hear anybody else speaking English so it didn't appear to be a tourist destination. On balance, it was fine, but won't be at the top of our list for a return visit.
