Went there tonight with my father, had a very nice time. The place has a certain early 20th century Zola feel, and it's definitely an experience.
However, a few things you should know :
- You WILL have strangers sharing your table (and there is not separation or anything, it's elbow to elbow), and we had the opportunity of meeting two very nice women (US). It's definitely a great way to naturally socialize with people from around the world! Yet many were surprised when the waiter showed them their table (as in "well... Isn't that table taken ? I mean do you expect us to sit with people I absolutely don't know ?"), so avoid if you want some privacy or want to avoid noise.
- I'm French, live in Paris, and I have to say the food is not bad but it's average, don't go there to taste true French cuisine
- Service was good, the order was taken fast and the dishes came in quickly, yet there was no rush whatsoever throughout the dinner, definitely a good point.
- Excellent value. As in : two dishes (duck), wine, water, bread, and two desserts for 30€. Unbelievable prices for Paris!
All in all, great atmosphere, worth visiting not for the food but for the place (not suitable for a date or anything formal) ! I guess you either hate it (if you want your own table), or love it (for the meet-your-fellow diner lottery).
