“Old-style ambiance, very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

Though l'Ambassade d'Auvergne has become a real tourist destination these days - even catering to groups - it is still worth a visit, for lamb, lentils and l'aligot prepared table-side.

“Sublime appetizer and dessert! Service a bit gimmicky”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

Never thought I would say that a lentil salad was one the best things I ate all week in Paris -- must be all that bacon and duck fat! The chocolate mousse was also out of this world. It doesn't hurt that both of these things are brought to your table in gigantic bowls, impossible to finish, no matter how hard you try. I found my entree a little disappointing by comparison -- it is a bit gimmicky the way they whip up the aligote for you tableside and, despite knowing that it was literally loaded with cheese, it didn't really taste much different than regular mashed potatoes, just with a texture almost like rubber. The duck breast was good but nothing distinguished. Room is tasteful and timbered with well spaced tables but the way the wait staff was rushing around made the atmosphere a lot less relaxing than it could have been.

“Best dessert in Paris”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2012

I had read about this restaurant having the best chocolate mousse in a magazine article (http://gourmettraveller.com.au/eating-in-paris-for-under-10.htm), and had to visit. It did not disappoint, and I think it's the best chocolate mousse I've ever had. The duck was outstanding, perfectly pink in the middle, in fact everything was great. I'm going to try my hand at making aligot one of these days, and see if I can get the same height of stretch that the staff could! If you don't speak French and are anxious about making reservations over the phone, don't be, most of the staff seem to speak English, or you can make a reservation through their website - also available in English.

“Country Kitchen Feel in the Heart of Paris”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

The moment we stepped into this place we knew we were in for a great night. We were warmly welcomed by the waiter (who turned out to be a real character) and shown to our table in the cosy dining room. It has a great atmosphere, with old copper puts hanging from the exposed wooden beams. The highlight of the night was definitely the main course of duck breast. We are both big fans of duck and have ordered it at many different high quality places. This was possibly the best duck breast we have ever had, crispy on the outside and wonderfully moist in the middle. This came with an accompaniment of aligot, the most amazing "cheesy mash" you'll ever have.

The chocolate mousse for dessert was incredible. They bring it to you in a large saucepan and scoop out a very generous amount on to your plate. They then leave the rest of the pot on the table, in case you have room for more.

A wonderful and reasonably priced dining experience and the bext dinner we had during our ten days in Paris.

“What a Fun Evening!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

We had dinner at l'Ambassade d'Auvergne on the 30th of December, 2011. What a fun first night in Paris! The waiter was really funny but not overbearing. The food was simply incredible. The potatoes were just as wonderful as we were expecting, and the table-side performance was impressive. The chocolate mousse was divine. And they even shared the recipe. Not sure I can recreate the texture, but I'll certainly try! We would definitely return.
