“Lack of staff, awful sleep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

1.There is no Staff at the reception between 12AM and 3PM and after 8PM, in spite of the fact the check-in time is advertised as 1PM. We contacted the hotel with an advanced warning of our expected arrival at 1PM and were promised that we would be able to get the key from the safe in the reception. However, on arrival there was no any key left for us in the safe, so we just had to leave our luggage in the lobby and only hope that we will find it there later in the evening as we did not plan to return to the hotel before 8PM. We found the key on our return but had a lot of troubles opening our room, and again there was nobody to help. The whole experience was quite frustrating.
2. The hotel garage is very small, with space available for only 3 cars, 2 of which had already been taken prior to our arrival. With a big car like ours it took us about half an hour to turn around in the garage and park the car and we could do it only after moving some stuff away. Again no help available.
3. The room size may be 18m2 as advertised, but that definitely includes a small kitchenette and the bathroom too.
4. The basic room furniture is old and shabby.
5. The beds are extremely uncomfortable: too short for a tall person; small cheap pillows; old sagging mattress; and that typical for cheap hotels plastic cover under the bed sheet, which makes the whole your body to sweat. Therefore, no good sleep at all.

Clean room, friendly staff. We came in after reception closure, but receptionist called us and gave very clear instructions.
Accidentally booked room for 1 person (we were three) but staff changed it next day without any hassle, and without additional cost for first night.
Location is perfect, short walk to pretty Place d'Italie subway station. Hundreds of Asian restaurant in vicinity, quite a different experience from staying, e.g., in Le Marais. In Chinatown very few tourists, which is nice in Paris!
Small kitchen but perfect for wonderful French breakfast as bakery on the corner, and stove-top espresso apparatus for café au lait.
I would stay here

If you are thinking about staying in he Asian part of Paris and don't want to pay too much maybe this is a option. We stayed in this hotel twice because we love to visit all the Asian shops and eat real Vietnamese food. Both times we came by car and the hotel have a garage were we could park. The price is for a room (not ppppn) which is without breakfast. If you want a super clean room you better look for something else but if you don't mind that try it for a couple of nights.

We liked the hotel a lot. Friendly, helpfull personnel. A bakery on the corner and a very good matras for Paris standards. We liked it a lot so close to the metro and with a brasserie and many restaurants nearby. The first time in Paris we thought: 'maybe another time another year".

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back: quiet and maybe a balcony.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel with my family. I booked it for 80EUR per night which is quite cheap for hotels in Paris. Room was heavily used, but clean enough. Housekeeping was perfect and invisible. Reception lady gave us misleading information about museum open hours and messed up the payment process (charged me 3 times same amount which was wrong)...
It was not possible to close the window in the room completely, which made our mornings fresh.
Bathroom was acceptable: towels, water, sewage everything worked properly. No insects, luckily (I heard there are many in some hotels). Really good was ability to cook in the room, especially for the baby. We bought food in the MONOPRIX supermarket, which is down the broad street from Tolbiac subway station. Also we could easily negotiate late check-out time and got free internet access for 24hours (normally chargeable).

All in all, I would never come back to this hotel, however cannot say anything really negative. When you pay in Paris 80EUR per night you should be ready for modest conditions and some inconveniences.

Room Tip: Check room facilities for defects when you move in!

I stayed at this hotel for over 10 days in both 2002 and 2007 and was looking forward to my return. Thankfully this time it was only 4 nights. There use to be one English TV channel but this has now disappeared. I now travel with a laptop and was pleased to see wifi advertised. I paid 10 euros for 24 hours of usage. However there was no connectivity in my room. I therefore had to sit in the small foyer. After using only about 4 hours the password became invalid and I was charged another 10 euros for a new one. I asked for a teatowel for the kitchenette which had been supplied on previous visits. Unfortunately a non-English speaking girl was on duty that morning. A man I think was the owner, he sat in the foyer most of the time doing nothing, not even answering the phone if the receptionist was unavailable, told me I could not have one. However one turned up a day after after I had purchased one. The other girls were sympathetic but I think the owner does not want English speaking clients. I will be looking for somewhere else on future visits to Paris.

I stayed in a small studio with kitchen and balcony. The room was small by North American standards, but bigger than most rooms in other hotels where my friends stayed. There are plenty of restaurants around the hotel. It is close to a Metro station. The bathroom and kitchen was clean. Avenue de Choisy is not a very quiet street, and my room was facing the street. This was a good bargain.
