“Probably the worst Hotel I have stayed in the past 10 years”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

I'm sorry but this has to rate one of the worst overnight experiences. The location is OK and that's about it. I knew I had made a mistake whilst struggling in through the unhelpful double entrance doors....and it then deteriorated from thereon in.....

Why must one climb with heavy luggage up one floor to the lift. The lift then arrives at the 5th floor, but that's up another flight of stairs!

The lift itself is designed for a small person with one suitcase......not me with 2 suitcases.

The shoebox room was dreadful. It needed a good clean, the stained furniture needs throwing out and replacing. The bed was OK, but like other reviewers I got bitten by bed bugs.

I will never stay here again.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

Dear Sir,
We are sad to learn that you were not satisfied with your stay.
Actually, the lift, which is designed for 2 people, is located on half floor, so it is necessary to take some steps to acces it, and not a complete floor as you writed.
So, It is a shame that you did not inform us that because of your heavy luggagge, you prefered a room on ground floor, or on first floor.
Dear Sir, we inform you that we checked every inch of the room, and the bed matress you were staying in, and we did not find any signs of bed bugs, so evidently you were bitten in a another place.
Best regards.
The Manager.

We stayed three nights at Hotel Daguerre. First, it's reasonably priced- 110 Euro a night for a double room. Second, it's in a funky, lovely area of Paris- safe at night, close to 4 different metro stations, and full of restaurants and street markets. Third, the rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. Small by US standards, but regular by European standards. Finally, the hotel staff speak English and are helpful and friendly. Oh, and this hotel will have central A\C in every room by the end of May 2012. (Noticed one review said it was stuffy- in summer it would have been, but won't be this summer!) 30 minutes walk to the Sorbonne area. If you want a charming, quiet and clean spot a bit south of Paris, this is the place for you. Would definitely definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room- we did and they gave us a room away from the street- very nice.

When you come to visit Paris and do not intent to spend a huge amount of money on the hotel only (trust me there will be plenty of other possibilities), but still want to consider resting in a decent comfortable place located not somewhere on the outskirts of the city – then you are spot on with the Montparnasse Daguerre.

The hotel is situated in a short walking distance to the Gaîté metro stop and with a few more steps you are at the Gare Montparnasse – from there by metro in 10min at Châtelet ergo in the heart of Paris. Nearby you also will find the Montparnasse cemetery, but do not worry it is not right next to it (two blocks away).

Entry to the room is by key card which has to be left woth the reception when you leave the hotel. The rooms are clean, have a safe and provide an adequate size when one focuses to discover the city and have comfortable beds to fall into in the evening or enjoying some TV programs. The bathroom very clean and equipped with a towel heater.

Typically for Paris is the narrow staircase and the XS size elevator, but it is what it is … Paris and that is just part of it. If one looks for huge elevators or spacious staircases… better book in one of these huge hotels and spend your money on that.

Additionally I can state that the Montparnasse Daguerre hotel’s reception staff always very friendly and helpful. In the close area around the hotel you will also find some interesting reastaurants and wine bar to chill down after a long day sight seeing.

I stayed here with a friend. At the time there were updates being done on the outside. The front was covered in scaffolding. I think if we had been there during the day it would have been a bit loud. The staff was friendly and the location felt safe for 2 women travelers. There were plenty of choices of places to eat. The room was small but clean. Most rooms in Paris are not large. It was a very hot week when we were there. Again as with most cities there is no AC.. They did offer fans but it was a tad warm. We didn't open the windows because there was scaffolding(we didn't want to worry about someone climbing in our room) We did try breakfast one morning at the hotel. It was OK not sure if it was worth the 9 or 10 euro cost. There are plenty of places in town to eat instead for a bit less. It was an easy walk to the metro and the train stations in the area felt safe, even late at night. We enjoyed our 3 night stay and it served our purposes very well. Don't take my 3 stars as a bad thing. It's a true 3 star hotel. I had a good experience. Remember hotels in Europe are not the same as the states. It does have a very small elevator and tight stair but this was not an issue for us at all.

Every now and then you get lucky when picking a hotel. I don't have a personal favourite hotel in Paris, but I try to find a hotel in a convenient location. That normally means close to a metro station on the line that takes me to my meeting place the quickest way. Of course the quartier should be nice as well, with a good choice of restaurants close by.
This time, I was looking for a place close to Tour Montparnasse. On Google maps, I found this hotel and it did provide the basic needs for a business stay: bed, shower, desk and internet connection.

I got lucky this time, because this hotel is very nice indeed, great value for money. It is not your standard cubboard type of Parisian room, but both bedroom and bathroom were quite spacious. They serve a nice, but fairly basic, breakfast buffet and you can order your coffee freshly brewed.

The location is just great. Metro station close at hand and the Montparnasse area is nice and lively, certainly if you are there as a tourist. Rue Daguerre and the surrounding streets have plenty of restaurants to choose from.

One thing though, what is it with French hotels and the showers? They seem to have invented a different holding system for the shower head for each hotel in the country and more than half are just not working properly.

All in all great value for money, friendly and helpful personnel, nice rooms and a perfect location to discover the city.

We were impressed with this hotel. The welcome was warm, and all of the staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was comfortable, very clean, and everything worked. There was satellite television and a 'fridge in the room, the bed was comfortable, and the heating effective (important in November!) We thought the breakfast buffet at ten euros good value. Plenty of shops and restaurants round about, and handy for both the metro and the RER with direct access to Charles de Gaulle airport. Definitely would stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights, on a stopover heading elsewhere in France by train. I picked this hotel primarily on the basis of proximity to Montparnasse train station for a very early departure.

The hotel was of a good standard, it was quite small and a bit dated but it was clean and the staff were friendly. On our night of arrival the man on night duty gave us a very good recommendation for a reasonably priced restaurant only a couple of streets away and was very helpful providing us with tips on what to see etc.

I feel that most Paris hotels overstate their proximity to train stations, so when it says it is very close this is actually more like 10-15 minute walk, including crossing a couple of roads, which is a bit cumbersome with suitcases but wasn't too much hassle really - you just keep expecting to see it as you leave the station which makes the journey seem a bit longer!

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, it is close to metro stops which is good for access to more central areas of Paris, and has some very good restaurants nearby.
