I am writing this review, because reviews from others was a big help for us. This Hotel is nice enough and friendly enough. A little further out but still an interesting Paris area. mcDonalds, partisseries and train station (St Jaerres from memory, apoligise for spelling ?) all aross rd and convenient.
You can walk to Sacre Coeur and Moulin Rouge (about 15-20min), or catch Metro. We stayed in back room on ground floor, a nice, small and simple room, which we were told was quiet. Which it was except for the constant banging door from other guests entering the block. The door unfortunately is right beside our room. So I suggest upstairs (3 levels). There is a lift (bit noisy) and a tight stairwell. The Hotel is worth the price and stay for us.
Regards Chris.

Just got back from a long weekend in Paris, with my partner and friends. We traveled with easy by EuroStar, staying at the Libertel, Canal Saint-Martin. We totally enjoyed our hotel. It was clean and modern with friendly English speaking staff. The rooms we had were a decent size with sattelite T.V. and hairdryers in the bathroom. It also had a 24 hour reception, a lift and our rooms were cleaned everyday (even though we didn't want them to).
The Metro Station (Jaures) was just around the corner and was only a couple of stops from Gard du Nord station. The 26 bus stopped right outside the hotel, so it was only a 10 min journey by bus on our way back to Gard du Nord. We even managed to get a no.N13 night bus back to the hotel after a night out!!
There are 2 supermarkets, a tobacconist, Boulangerie's and places to eat on the same street or around the corner. We had lunch one afternoon at '25 Est', a nice restaurant/cafe on the canal across the intersection,(an english waitress helped to translate the menu!) you can also get a sightseeing boat trip from there.
It's an area to experience the Parisian way of living and it's pretty good to use as a base.
So, there's not much to complain about, We felt it was a very good Hotel for the price and location. We had a great weekend and would happily stay there again.

The Libertel Canal Saint Martin is a very basic hotel. We had a standard room, which was very small. The bathroom was also small and certainly in need of a renovation or at least repainting.
The room got too warm at night as there was no airco. And worse, we could not leave our window open, because we were sleeping on the ground floor and the window was so low that anyone could easily get in...
The staff is friendly, but housekeeping only cleaned our room at around 17h00 which we found relatively late.
Buffet is simple and can be compared to other similar French hotels.
Location is not really good, but close to the metro so you can easily escape this part of the city.

Perfectly clean but tiny rooms. Beds are very comfy but the bathroom was also really tiny. We didn't realise there were better quality rooms available so would definately ask for them.

Breakfast was included in the price of our stay, and consisted of the usual continental fair (brioche, bread, cheese, meat, yoghurts etc) which was buffet, so you could take as much or as little as you liked.

The day staff were friendly and helpful but the night staff didn't know a lot. The hotel is really close to Metro station Jaures, which is easily connected to other lines and all parts of the city.

Booked through Expedia the day before the trip - we had trouble finding availability and ended up going here because it was one of the only free hotels within our budget.

We paid around £100 a night, so expected it to be 'ok' at the very least.......We paid for a Comfort room, with air conditioning.

On Arrival we were allocated to room 3001, on the ground floor and through the 'courtward (!!)'. The room was VERY basic. Not dirty, just 'worn' and very dated. Not quite sure if the bedsheets were clean or not..... looked a little greasy if you ask me. There was a kettle and coffee/whitener/tea, small desk, tiny shower and sink in one room, and WC in another. The room was small.... i would say it was bearable, but certainly not £100 per night. We checked back to your receipt and it mentioned air conditioning.......SO went to reception. We were in the wrong room, but all the "comfort with air con" rooms were full, and we could only be moved on the third night - I have raised this with Expedia anyway.

On the third night it seemed like a different hotel - in room 3701 on the 7th floor. The carpets were spotless, the bathroom clean, shiny, brand new. There was a crisp white duvet and pillows (unlike room 3001 with sheets and blanket!), we could open the balcony doors and look out and see the Sacre Coeur in the distance. There was also a flat screen TV on the wall, and numerous additional channels which we didnt have on the small box in room 3001. Totally different, totally brilliant and would recommend to anyone - only if you get one of the nicer rooms!

The staff seemed helpful enough but do not go out their way to be exceptional in any way.

The hotel is not located in a particularly nice area of Paris. There are people out there trying to con you on every street corner and at every area of tourist interest.

The walk to the Metro station Jaunes is 3 minutes. The trip into the centre is approx 10 mins. The trip to the Eiffel tower is about 20-25 mins, but it is nice to walk everywhere.

We had breakfast once (complimentary for being in the wrong room for 2 nights!) and it was very basic. Not worth 8 euros...... There are better things at the little boulangerie just a few doors down. There is also a supermarket up the road 4 or 5 doors.

I would recommend this hotel 100% if you stayed in one of the modern rooms, probably worth the £100 a night..... but it certainly isnt if you have one of the basic rooms. Make sure you book one with air con and you are guaranteed this.

  • Liked — Close to Gare Du Nord, Some rooms very nice!
  • Disliked — Room 3001 !!
