While it is unfortunate that the traveler from Kitchener had a not so pleasant stay here, I can see where perhaps the Cronstadt could swing either way for a person, which was kind of what I meant by “not the best choice/ high maintenance travelers”. And I don’t mean that negatively at all.
High maintenance referring to things like linen changing… towel changing…. Breakfast in bed…. Having tickets ordered…. cars ordered…..
That being said, I do believe a few things should be pointed out….
-Perhaps the room/hotel was in the process of renovations…? Your stay was two and a half years ago. Did you request a different room and were denied?
I honestly snooped about and saw nothing of disrepair. No it isn’t the Ritz, or even a Best Western, or an Ibis… but it IS a small 2 star hotel in Paris!
-I suspect a lot of places DO NOT change the sheets daily in Europe. It is a filthy waste of energy and water. Do you change your sheets each morning at home?
- I had (mentioned) hanger issues too…. But I have been in enough hotels around Europe to sort of expect that, same for towel issue. I also asked about and got the same issues from many other travelers. Guess things are a bit different on different Continents.
But, the kicker is did you request an extra towel from the front desk and were denied? I wanted an extra blanket and North American style pillow…. And they were delighted to comply.
- And in regards to the shout out for the Langlois, I have to say, I did look longingly at this hotel, BUT
1. Either the prices have changed drastically from 2002 to 2005.
2. Maybe the prices are really different for a double room…
-Or-
3. Your idea of a few dollars more is VASTLY different than mine!
I paid 896.00 CDN for 10 nights at the Cronstadt. That converted into the Euro comes to the tune of about 60.00 Euros per night.
As opposed to the Langlois who offered me the rate of 96.00 Euros per night…
I don’t know but saving the 530.00 CDN dollars difference is more than a “few dollars” to me….
And I confess I totally enjoyed spending it on frivolous things like wine, beer AND bottled water at EVERY meal. Pain aux chocolet daily and expensive Parisian treats whenever I darn well felt like it!
Here’s hoping it didn’t fully muck up your vacation.
