“Cute little hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

This hotel is old and basic, but to me full of french charm! A great location with a Metro station just down the lane. The host's were lovely and very helpful during our stay and the breakfast was great value. If you are looking for budget friendly basic accommodation in Paris full of lots of character and charm then I recommend this hotel.

Cute little french hotel..
Don't expect anything special..
The staff was very helpful and spoke English very well!

This hotel surely matches the standard of two starts hotels in Paris: old building, long time since the last room renovation, basic stay and no frills at all. If you look for something else, don't stay here. But if a simple hotel is ok for you, this is a good choice. Besides being old, rooms are big enough, same for the bathroom, and the cleaning is ok. The location of this hotel is very good. I would say it's quite central, in a short walk you can reach lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and there are different metro lines that allows you go to where you want in the town. The price I got was a reasonable deal and people at the reception were very nice with me during my stay. The wifi in the room is something I always look for and it was working fine all along my stay there. There's just a negative aspect in my opinion: the lift is very, very, very small, 2 people without luggage or 1 person with a luggage, no more.

I have no real complaints about this hotel. It was in a good location for the price; Strasbourg – Saint-Denis Metro station was down the road in one direction and Bonne Nouvelle Metro station in the other. There are lots of food places and shops around (Monoprix and Franprix in particular). The staff were always very friendly and they spoke good English, which was great considering we spoke little French. The hotel was small, yes, and perhaps a little rundown but it was clean enough. The pictures are a little out of date -- at least if our room was anything to go by -- but that was neither here or there to me. I would like to give a warning to any with claustrophia -- the lift is tiny (just about fits two normal-sized people). The free wi-fi was a huge plus -- each floor has it's own access point and you just need to get the password from reception. All in all we had a pleasant stay at Hotel Bonne Nouvelle and I would definitely stay there again.

Advantages: good staff, price.
Disadvantages:
1) At first we were proposed terrible old room on the 4th floor with stains on the ceiling. We asked for another, and moved to the room 10 on the 1st floor, much better.
2) Refrigerator and hair dryer did not work.
3) The region is dirty and full of prostitutes.
4) No air conditioning.
5) There is no door to the toilet and bathroom, just a curtain.
Choose another region of Paris, like Marais. Yes, 2nd arrondissement is close to Louvre, but all regions of Paris are easy reachable by metro. And the places of interest are everywhere in the city.

The location is excellent. It is very close to Metro. It takes me about 5 minutes walking to Metro station. The street is very quiet and the employees are very helpful. On the other hand, the hotel room is not clean, quilts on the bed are dirty with stains on it, carpet torn, and the bathroom was very dirty with black spots on the wall and the bathtub. The closet is extremely small; there is not enough room to put clothes in. The walls are very thin, you are disturbed by what is going on in another room, such as snoring, flushing the toilet, and opening the door.
It is able to find better hotels with 10 or 20 euros more.

Cheaper then an actual hostel, this cozy place was situated pretty central and near a main train station. The staff were lovely and helpful. The actual hotel looked like a big old house, very old building and with a long flight of spiral stairs, we were at the top in our own room. The room was very basic but spacious and had a TV. There were share bathrooms on each floor. I think the cozy feel came from the fact it wasn't very big, which i think made it a better stay.
