“Little Gem in Paris”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

We really enjoyed our stay at this small family run hotel. The rooms are charming and the bathrooms have very modern amenities. It is situated a few doors down from Rue Cler which is a pedestrian only street lined with restaurants, bars and shops. This location is ideal for touring all the sites in Paris, either on foot or on the metro. The breakfast for 9 euros was served in a beautiful little room in the lower level and was very good value for everything included; hot beverage, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh croissants and baguettes with a variety of jams, fruit cocktail and yogurt. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to Paris.

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms, one on the 3rd floor facing the street and one on the lower level courtyard, both we...

This hotel is a lovely small hotel situated in the best place for sight seeing in Paris! Perfectly close to the Eiffle tower and near a metro station gives you get opportunity to get around all the places. The room we had was lovely and all that we needed for our 3 night stay for the bank holiday weekend.

Would defiantly reconnect going to the Eiffle tower at night. The most amazing view!

Small family run hotel in an excellent location in the center of Paris. The rooms are characterized by heavy wallpaper in the old style, coupled with modern bathrooms and a good internet connection

The neighborhood is what makes this hotel special. Here are typical french bistros and cafés lined up, as well as famous clothing stores, bakeries and cheese shops to name a few.

It is a quiet area, just 10 minutes walk from the Eiffel Tower. Nearest metro is 2 minutes away.

Can with no problems recommend this hotel to others.

We stayed here recently as a couple vacationing in Paris. We have visited Paris more than a dozen times before, each time we like to try a mix of new and old hotels, so that we have plenty of options. In this occasion, we stayed at Hotel Le Walt, Hotel Le Tourville, and Hotel du Champ de Mars, all within a few minutes of walking distance from one another.

We picked Hotel du Champ de Mars this time, because of Rick Steve's recommendation. Having just watched his television show about Paris, we decided to stay here for five days. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED, and would NOT return to this hotel again.

First, when we made the reservation, we requested a room that faces the street. On arrival, we were told that there was no street-facing room, but we could request it next morning with the front desk. Our room was located on the inside with a window that looks out to the side wall of another building. The room was small, obviously intended for a single person, with a double bed squeezed into it. There was little standing area and one has to go around the other to move about in the room. There was no room for the TV, so it was placed high up on top of the dresser cabinet, and from the bed you'd need to look up at an odd angle to watch TV. The bathroom was so small, when you bend down to use the wash stand, the rear of your legs would touch the toilet behind you. Second, next morning we asked the front desk receptionist if we could change to a room facing the street. The male owner was clearly not happy that we asked to change the room, and started to tell us that this is Paris, rooms are small and something unpleasant and unintelligible. When I made a comment that the room has little sunlight and is dark, he became more upset. He said he doesn't like it that I said it's "dark," followed by more unintelligible words. The owner continue to talk unpleasantly for sometime, and told us to check in later. Third, when we return in the evening, the new receptionist took a very long time to find our room, and when he gave us the key, he placed it on the counter without a word nor bothering to look up! How rude, and how unprofessional! Lastly, when we left, the woman owner never even asked if we had a good stay, but only wanted to know if we needed to book a taxi (some hotels get kickbacks when they called taxis and vans for guests). When we said no, she showed little further interest in us. To be fair, during our stay we encountered one employee who showed some basic courtesy. But overall, we are shocked by the arrogance and lack of professionalism shown by people who runs this hotel.

Rick Steve likes to suggest small privately owned hotels, but this one is a mistake. The owner is arrogant, and you'd better not complaint about the rooms. They take advantage of large number of American visitors and couldn't care less if your don't return. Don't believe it that just because you're in Paris, you have to accept tiny rooms and rude attitudes. Take time to shop for your hotels wisely. For example, we paid for about the same rates at the Hotel Le Walt, and Hotel Le Tourville, and enjoyed a more pleasant experience at both places than at Hotel du Champ de Mars. We would return to Hotel Le Walt again.

We stayed here for 5 nights and would choose this hotel again. The neighborhood and location is fantastic, making this an incredible value in an expensive city. We had room #2, which was ground floor in the back. Although initially disappointed about the lack of a view, it was private with a tiny courtyard. Very small, but clean and charming. Our disappointment over being on ground floor was quickly changed when we saw the narrow spiral steps and tiny, slow-moving lift. There are small safes in the rooms for valuables and a hair dryer is provided. Next to the hotel is a super market to buy water and other essentials (including reasonably priced wine). Best of all, the Eiffel Tower is a 5-minute walk; pick up picnic items, grab a bench in the park and watch the tower twinkle. The metro is is close, and don't forget to use the Paris buses (#69 circles the city and can be picked up a few blocks away).

Room Tip: Consider asking for a ground floor room to avoid the steep stairs and tiny lift. No views but the b...

We stayed in this hotel 14 years ago. And it is STILL the best deal in Paris. Metro within two blocks and the Paris metro gets you ANYWHERE with only one transfer. Walk to Eiffel tower! Great markets out the door to stock your afternoon picnic. Two great bistros out the door for your morning café and afternoon cocktail. Tons of great restaurants within walking distance. It has it all.

The only downside is the rooms are tiny. But why spend time in a hotel room if your are in Paris, right?

This hotel is the best.

Room Tip: I would avoid first floor.

This was a charming little hotel. Yes, rooms are small, but are you spending much time in them? We had a street facing room, which was quiet when the windows were closed. The desk staff was very helpful, especially the man on Sunday/Monday. However, the owner wouldn't tell us how early we needed to be at the airport which was a little odd. She did arrange a cab to the airport which we shared with another couple. This was less expensive than taking the shuttle for all 4 of us. The shuttle will not pick up just 2 people, so I don't know why they push it. We did not try the hotel breakfast as there is a small grocery store next door where you can pick up yogurt, and there is a bakery at each end of the block both of which had excellent pastries. Also a Starbucks about 3 blocks away if you need a coffee fix and are having breakfast in your room. A couple of the cafes do breakfast as well. Metro is about a 5 minute walk, and the Eiffel Tower and Seine are about a 10 minute walk. Excellent location. We would stay there again.
