“Good alternative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Pros:
Good location (only a few subway stations away from downtown), very friendly staff, nice and clean rooms, good breakfast, affordable price.

Cons:
Very small rooms and bathrooms (was impossible to have two suitcases open at the same time). No closets or drawers, only lockers.
Very noisy. There were people shouting and slamming doors until very late at night and people talking loudly very early in the morning.

Paris is expensive so this hostel was a nice find! As you have read it is far from the city centre which most hostels are unless you want to pay a lot of money! The subway is cheap (€1,70 per trip much better than London!) and is very efficient, I never waited more than a few minutes. To get to the tour eiffel station you will have to take 3 different lines at about 30-40 minutes from the hostel (helpful hint spend the €1 on the Paris metro app and you will not get lost in the complex Paris transit system!)
- hostel is located in a sketchier area of Paris but I felt safe enough walking from the metro station (Belleville) about 5 minutes
- the rooms are small but have private bathrooms which are also small but clean. Having a free towel is a nice bonus!
- free breakfast is nothing special, croissant, baguette and jam, coffee and juice. It's free so can't complain!
- wifi access everywhere in the hostel including your room!
- only downside to the hostel is the kitchen which is basically a microwave and fridge. There is no stove. This hostel would be much better if it invested in a hot plate so you can cook dinner!
- staff are friendly, I found it easy to communicate in English.

The location of this hostel is a little bit far from the city but having the transport system intact it wouldn't matter much. The staff were helpful but it was really getting difficult for me to be on the same page with them( pathetic English). The rooms are spacious the bathrooms are clean and tidy. I would definitely recommend this hostel.

Location is the only disadvantage.

After stay at two other hostels on my trip in Europe, Beautiful City Hostel was a godsend. They provided us with towels and an additional blanket. We had a private bathroom. Everything was spotless and clean. Outlets are located RIGHT next to the bed so that you can actually charge your things - and there's a private lamp for your bunk as well. And the staff was friendly and polite too!

In short - it was gorgeous, quiet and the first good night's sleep I'd had in a week.

The area is so-so, we always felt safe walking together, but it's not exactly picturesque or upscale. Just be smart about what you do. There *is* a supermarket about 5 minutes walk from the hostel. And the Colonel Fabien and Belleville metro stations are equidistant, about 10 minutes in either direction.

Room Tip: My friend and I booked beds in a four person room - and had the suite to ourselves for several days...

Our private room with bathroom and toilet was very clean and safe, however we didnt risk to sleep with an open window as te first floor room looks easyly accesible to te street. Wouldnt leave any expensive things alone as there was no lockable locker. My bed was very confortable and i had a good rest at night as the hotel and the street outside was quiet.

The area was dissaponting as there is absolutely nothing to see around and not even a decent supermarket to buy something nice to eat, the near by bars were looking very grungy, however we risked to have morning coffe at a cafe near the hostel also it was good that the metro station is no more that 5 minute walk away.

Staff at the hostel friendly and keen to help

Do not expect a nice breakfast at the hostel. some dry currosants and a cheapest jam, tasteless coffee...however the tea was very nice. The person responsable for breakfast got completely lost and we had to go look for cups and plates ourselfs on the first morning:)

Room Tip: Go for a private room with your own toilet and shower, not on a first floor preferrably

I stayed here with a friend who was travelling across the continent. The room was an excellent price. Clean, tidy, comfortable. Very good location, Belleville metro very close, fantastic helpful staff. Wifi included, which was really useful.

The local neighbourhood wasn't the most upmarket, but that made it somewhat cheaper and less tourist-laden than other parts of Paris.

Would definitely stay there again, and recommend to others.
