“Great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We took a city break as a group of three friends for two nights in paris. This hotel is great value for its room which sleep 3. Elsewhere we would have needed two rooms. Very clean and the staff were welcoming.

Breakfast is good. The deco of the hotel is classic and the rooms are clean. Friendly and helpful staff. The shuttle to the airport cost 40 euro for two of us, which is a good bargain. Nice neighbourhood.

I would stay in an older style hotel anytime as long as our needs were met. There was s very eager management staff ready to help you with travel plans. The proximity to the metro was very convenient.

We have stayed at this hotel three or four times and always appreciate the warm welcome the staff shows everyone who comes through the door. Our son and his family, who were staying elsewhere but met us in the lobby of this hotel for an evening out, also got a friendly greeting on arrival. The rooms are furnished with antiques and most if not all have lovely fireplaces (Not that I've ever seen a fire in any of them). The one we had this May was smaller than those of previous years which was a little inconvenient for a three-night stay but we worked around it. It was on the first floor so the metro rumbling was perhaps more intrusive than would be the case higher up. The hotel is well-kept and beds are comfortable. The neighborhood is varied, with lots of places to eat nearby, including the award-winning Boulangerie Vandermeersch across the street, which is not-to-be-missed. Breakfast at the hotel is sufficient, but not extraordinary. We sometimes have breakfast at one of the cafes down l'avenue Daumesnil. The Bistro de la Porte Doree, up the street and around the corner has an exceptional set dinner menu. The Porte Doree metro stop is a few feet from the hotel door. Underground there are about 6 exits from this stop. Exits #1 and #2 are the closest to the hotel - I think it's #1 that comes up just by the hotel. There is a street market on l'avenue Daumenil on at least one day a week. The Bois de Vincennes is just up the street, providing a beautiful place to run, walk, sit, picnic and chat. All in all, it's a fun location, away from the business of the center, but still easily accessible to it.

Room Tip: Ask for as large a room as available on an upper floor.

Charming, clean, very Parisian, l'hotel de la porte Dorée offers a good taste of Paris, of its hospitality, of its history, of its wonderful boulevards. The metro and the bus stop at a few meters from the hotel solve its not perfectly central location. Very kind staff, always ready to help with very appreciate suggestions to move around and to eat.

I loved the style and feel of this hotel. Both bedroom & bathroom were good size. Shower was a bit tricky to use without flooding the bathroom & the sink kept blocking up.
The staff were very friendly and pleasant. Porte Doree and surrounding areas are very nice and a welcome break from the madness of Central Paris. Local markets a bonus.

While this hotel is not in the center of things, the metro stop, as others noted, is literally a few feet from the entrance. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a train at that stop. However, since the metro only gets moderate traffic there, it’s not a congested area. It was nice to enjoy the slower pace of a neighborhood after returning from a day of sightseeing. It’s on a main thoroughfare, so there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. We found the beds very comfortable and enjoyed the little amenities provided -- like a basket of magazines next to the bed. The front desk is staffed 24/7 and staff members were unfailingly helpful. Room sizes were fine for Paris. This is an older hotel which I think most will find charming (we did), but some may find difficult to manage because the tiny elevator is so difficult to use and the stairs slope a little.

My only con: Internet access is free, but spotty, and there is no printer for guests. If you want something printed you have to email it to the front desk and ask them to print it.

Big plus: The boulangerie across the street is exceptional. Best pain au chocolat ever!

Room Tip: The rooms (we saw 4 of them at various points) vary in size and noise level. Ask for a quiet one if...
