My husband and I stayed in a deluxe double room that was very nice. The hotel is in a fabulous LOCATION. Easy walks to the banks of the Seine, Notre Dame, Ile de la Cite and Ile Saint-Louis, Rue Mouffetard and nearby St. Germain des Pres neighborhood. Plus very close to good restaurants, bakeries, and the metro. One night after dinner we walked down to the Seine to look at Notre Dame all lit up, then crossed the river to get a closer look at Notre Dame and amazingly it was open! There was a free concert happening that night and we were able to walk right in and look around while listening to the beautiful music. One of those unexpected travel treats.
THE STAFF was very courteous and helpful. Everyone spoke English, and they were very patient and encouraging as I tried to practice my French on them. We enjoyed the BREAKFAST. It was worth the additional charge. We had thought we'd just pick up breakfast at a nearby cafe or bakery, and we could have, but we quickly discovered that the breakfast offered at the restaurant was just as good, and it was very convenient to just head downstairs in the morning and allow ourselves to slowly wake and prepare for another big day of sightseeing in the comfort of our hotel. It allowed us to have time to eat and then go back to our room to make sure we had everything organized for a full day of traveling through the city. They offered two breakfast options: Parisian (bread and coffee or tea and juice), or a Full Breakfast: Buffet style with eggs, yogurt, cheeses and meats in addition to the Parisian. You can decide each day - don't have to commit to the same level for every morning of the stay. This flexibility was great because some mornings we ate more or less depending on how hungry we felt or our planned itinerary.
OUR ROOM was truly wonderful. Knowing that rooms in big cities like Paris tend to be small, we opted for a deluxe double. It was as we expected - probably the size of a typical king room at a standard American hotel like a Marriott. There was plenty of space for us - bed, desk, closet and room for both suitcases. Plus a lovely bathroom and the toilet was in a separate room side-by-side with the shower and sink area which allowed both to be used separately and simultaneously for privacy. All very modern and simple design. Our particular room seemed extra special because it is in a location where, although on the second floor (one floor up from ground), it had no floors above it, so it had a skylight in the ceiling, which could be covered with a shade when needed. It also had a window that looked out on a small lane beside hotel. It was VERY QUIET in our room. The windows and even the internal door must be made of high quality material to block out sound. I could hear the difference when I opened the window during a busy time of day, although being on the lane, there was also little noise overall even with the window open. Also, a fire alarm went off during our stay, and we could hear it clearly but gently, but when my husband opened the door it was twice as loud, so great sound-proofing! OF NOTE: There are stairs just inside the entrance to the room that you have to walk up (about 8 steps). This was not a problem for us, and even made the room feel fun and different. But if steps are a problem for you, you may want to make sure your room doesn't have any. Since the hotel has an ELEVATOR, you could easily stay on any floor without using steps if needed.
We also used THE SAUNA during our stay. What a treat! We didn't know if we'd even bother - putting more priority into sightseeing time than sauna time. But one morning early in our stay we were feeling particularly jet-lagged, and decided to take it slow and visit the sauna after breakfast. It was lovely and did seem to rejuvenate us. My only wish was that it was available later in the evening so that we might have used it at the end of a long day after we returned from dinner out.
Big cities have small hotel rooms, if you want more space opt for a larger room. If that's not i...
