Hotel du Continent
30, Rue du Mont-Thabor, 75001 Paris, Closest Metro: Concorde, 500m

It is nearly thirty years since we last stayed at the Hotel du Continent so it has been interesting to see how it has been reinvented as an up-market boutique establishment. With decor by Christian Lacroix, the hotel has upsized its rooms to small suites which are a far cry from the somewhat cramped accommodations of the past. We stayed in the sixth floor junior suite which stretches across the top front of the building and takes in three dormer windows with balconies. The sixth floor celebrates the Americas. Each floor has a different continent as its theme. The Lacroix trademark is unmistakeable with bold block colours, contrasting textures and unrestrained use of prints on walls.

Furnishings and fixtures are up to date; the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms well thought out. Rooms are serviced daily and a light (French) breakfast is available downstairs daily for 10 Euros pp. The rooms have minibars and there is an honesty bar and coffee brewer available in the lobby lounge.

Value for money? Despite being conveniently located, for the casual visitor/tourist, the Continent is probably overpriced, but for the business traveller, especially those doing business in the fashion houses of The Marais, the Continent is an iconic "must do". After all, "It's Lacroix, Sweetie!". Discounts for multiple night stays are available when booking on line and the response to our booking enquiry was very prompt.

A small word of caution to future occupants of suite 64; when getting out of bed on the right hand side, beware of the inward sloping wall, painted black, which is very hard to see at night. Also, the elevator only goes as far as the fifth floor, so keep in mind that last flight of stairs if you are lugging bags.

Great hotel, helpful staff and free upgrade. Really modern and funky rooms. Probably the biggest size room we'd stayed in throughout the trip. Breakfast was not included but for extra €10 it wasn't too bad. Overall very happy with our stay!

My wife and I stayed at this excellent hotel during one of our stays in Paris on our recent trip to Europe.
The room was excellent and the shower and bathroom were large by comparison to other showers and bathrooms we encountered in Europe.
The desk staff were more than helpful and when we mentioned a problem with the bathroom sliding door it was rectified very quickly.

The breakfast downstairs was a typical "petit de jenuer" and was excellent.

Although the hotel is in a rather busy part of Paris the was no external noise to speak of due to the excellent doublr glazing. We were on the Africa floor and the decor if somewhat quirky was tasteful.

I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would gladly stay there again.

I booked our room at the last moment so we were a bit worried. Andrea, the receptionist is very charming and professional - and immediately made us feel at home. She pointed us to the nicest restaurants and to the attractions we were so impatient to experience.
Hotel du Continent is a perfectly placed beautiful hotel. You could eat breakfast in the hotel, and they also have an "Honesty Bar", where you pick up what you like and pay on an honor system.
The hotel is next to Rue Rivoli and Les Jardins de Tuileries, close to Louvre and not far from the Champs Elysees. What a great feeling - to take a morning stroll all the way to the Arc du Triomphe!
Places to eat: we enjoyed breakfast at L'Imperial, lunch at the Welcome Cafe and a great dinner at Tres Honore, all in the neighborhood. The convenience store "Panier des Gourmets" at 165 Rue Sanint Honore is close to the hotel, for snacks, wine, etc.
We will return to the Hotel du Continent on our next visit to Paris.
With friendship,
Sergio Buica

This is a lovely boutique hotel in a fabulous location!! It is walking distance from just about everything! The rooms are small, but you are in Paris!! I hope you are not spending much time inside. The rooms are very clean and they have possibly the BEST shower is all of Europe. My room faced a courtyard and was very quiet. The staff is welcoming, helpful and very friendly. The hotel is in a wonderful location walking distance to the Louvre, rue Sainte-Honore, the Opera and of course fabulous restaurants and cafés. It was a complete find and I am looking forward to my next star at Hotel du Continent!

This was a very nice hotel for a business stay as it was very close to the office and in a nice quiet road. The hotel area is very nice with Place Vendome just around the corner which has lots of very expensive and fashionable shops and hotels. There are also many small french style restaurants and bars close. Just around the corner and across the busy Rue de Rivoli is the Tuileries Gardens which is a lovely place to stroll and at one end is the Place de la Concorde and the other end is the Louvre museum. I had a medium size room which is still quite small but in line with the average Paris hotel for that price. The decor was ok if not a little bit mixed but the bed size, double, was fine and the bathroom/ shower was a good size. There is no room service other than continental breakfast which was very nice and worth the €10. Finally the best thing about the hotel was its staff who were very friendly and helpful especially those on reception which is why i gave the overall rating at 4.

Room Tip: Medium room will be ok for two people (just) but i can only imagine a small room would be very cramp...

A great hotel in a perfect location. Easy walking distance to all the sights we wanted to see during our 3 night stay and easy access to the metro too. The staff were friendly and welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.
The room, and the rest of the hotel, were clean and modern with a funky twist. We stayed in an Asia room (number 44), at the front of the hotel and while the room was far from large it was a perfectly good size in my experience of Parisian hotels (at least 5 previous visits) and enough room for the two of us and our luggage. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well and despite facing out onto the street (one road back from the very busy Rue de Rivoli) it was a peaceful location (even when there was noise outside we heard none of it through the excellent double glazing).
The breakfast was excellent (a simple selection of croissant, pain au chocolat and bread with fresh orange juice, coffe/tea and yoghurt) and reasonably priced for the location. There was also and "honesty bar" with a fair selection of drinks as well as coffee/hot drinks available 24 hours a day.
The hotel was not cheap but no hotel in the 1st arrondissement is cheap! I would say that it is excellent value for a stay in the heart of Paris and a great location for a couple on a long weekend.
I would heartily recommend a stay at this fantastic hotel.
