This was my third stay at the Kyriad Italie Gobelins (with the two previous stays being when it was called the Hotel Veronese). This is a great little hotel in a wonderful location. The hotel is located just a few blocks from the Place d'Italie Metro station (which has access to three of the most useful metro lines) and in the heart of a diverse Paris neighborhood. The restaurants near by are predominantly Italian but we had great Moroccan food in the neighborhood as well (at La Sirroco). On the weekends (or at least on Friday and Sunday when we visited) there is a wonderful (and rather large) market just off of the Place d'Italie circle where you will find great produce, cheeses, meats, and a variety of other items. Our only regret was that we didn't have a kitchen since the produce looked and smelled much better than what we have in any of the markets in the Washington DC area. Who knew that strawberries could smell that could from 10 feet away!
The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. Our first two nights were in room #3, and I wouldn't suggest staying in it or any of the other first floor rooms since they are rather loud. Room #3 is especially loud since it is surrounded by the stairs, elevator, front desk, and the luggage room. But they graciously moved us up to the 5th floor (with a balcony over looking the street) once it was available. This was a much better room. For European hotel rooms it was spacious. The room was clean and bed was pretty comfortable. The view was nothing special but it was nice to have a little balcony.
The hotel has a hot pot in each room, along with tea, coffee, and cookies that you can enjoy. The hotel used to include a good breakfast with the rate but how it is 7.50 extra. It still looked good but we opted to go with some of the wonderful pastry shops in the neighborhood. There are also several small grocery stores
just around the corner, as well as a laundromat about 3 blocks away. The staff speaks English and they were also very helpful in assisting us with making reservations at restaurants (our French is minimal at best).
The Kyriad is not the Ritz but it is a clean, friendly, safe, and great value hotel for those of us who aren't looking to blow our budget on where we stay. We will probably stay there the next time we are in Paris and would recommend it to our friends.
