“Eden Opera”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

For anyone who already went to paris it's obvious that most hotels don't have a very good price/quality ratio. This hotel is clean, the staff is helpfull and the rooms/bathrooms aren't as small as in other 2 star Paris hotels I've been before. The street where the hotel is located isn't very nice, has some shady bars, however it's safe, close to the metro and very close to the moulin rouge and sacre coeur.
For a weekend in paris is more than enough, but if you are looking for luxury you might have to consider other (more expensive) options.
If you do book this hotel, there's a boulangerie close to the hotel that has delicious cakes and croissants, but is closed on mondays.

The room was smaller than expected, but had everything we needed. Clean. Good bathroom. The scaffolding out front and outside our window spoiled it a bit. Very good location (check out Rue des Martyrs for lovely cafes, restaurants and shops).

Avoid this hotel at all costs. It was pretty awful anyway, but to add insult to injury the following happened on check in:

- I handed the receptionist my euro bank card, He tried it twice and claimed it wasnt working so I gave him another VISA card

- On check out I checked my accounts and the room had been debited three times (twice on the card which didnt work apparently and once on the VISA)

- Since then I have spent the last 3 months trying in vain to recover the money but they are denying it has been charged (despite my providing them with bank statements!)

I don;t expect they will refund the money despite the blatant overcharge. Disgrace.

Avoid the same experience and give this place a wide berth!

First of all, to call this hotel “Eden Ópera“ is a misnomer, as it is located quite far away from the opera itself. If you are coming from the Charles de Gaulle Airport using the Roissybus (whose final stop is at Rue Scribe, in the back of the Palais Garnier) you’ll have the walk around 15 minutes (1.5 km approximately) in order to get to the Eden Ópera. I and my wife made the same mistake, both of us misled by the word “Ópera” attached to the hotel’s name. “Eden Pigalle” would be a more appropriate name however I believe they do not use “Pigalle” to avoid scaring away potential customers traveling with children, as the hotel is located nearby the traditional (but decadent) Parisian Red-Light district which inherited its reputation from the times of the belle-époque with its ebullient night life, prostitutes, transvestites, night-clubs, sex-shops and, of course, the world-famous Moulin Rouge. (WARNING July 2011: The hotel's name has been changed to “Eden Hotel” on the Trip's Advisor website however in other search engines such as Booking.com this hotel is still listed as “Eden Ópera”).
That being said, the hotel itself is clean, quiet and the rooms recently updated and equipped with double-glazed windows and heating. There was a small TV installed on the wall, whose purpose, in my opinion, was to distract you from the ridiculously tiny size of the room and the absence of a refrigerator (which, by the way, is an item currently found at any Parisian hotel of the same category). Our room, located on the 5th floor barely fit the bed and the two suitcases. I bought few beers at the nearby Carrefour and had to leave them in the refrigerator used by the hotel’s staff. The hotel, located at the relatively quiet rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, is around 400 mts away from Place Pigalle where the traveler will find plenty of pharmacies, markets, restaurants, public transportation, taxis, buses and the métro station Pigalle (lines 2 and 12). For those who are interested in classical music there is a point of interest: The site (presently occupied by modern apartments, rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle no. 20) upon which once stood the house where Chopin and his lover Georges Sand lived between 1839 and 1842. By contrast with the rooms, there was a spacious breakfast room located at the ground floor (with a large window facing the street, which was nice) offering a wide variety of items, fresh fruits and hot beverages for 8,50 € per person. The staff was courteous but not hospitable. One day, while walking along the Boulevard de Clichy we were shocked to see candles and flowers layed down in front of a Chinese restaurant whose owners (a family of three) was murdered few days earlier. I don’t think Pigalle is a safe neighborhood. Anyway, I think we both were upset with the misunderstand caused by the hotel’s name and did not like the hotel surroundings very much. Our bad experience might have biased this review. Overall, the hotel is not bad, but there are plenty of hotels in the same price range around the Opera district offering additional features and I definitely would not recommend this one.

Very quite hotel, even if it was in the red light district of Paris. We never saw any activity as such and felt fairly safe walking the streets. Great location for Moulin Rouge, Sacre Couer and transport. Staff were always helpfull. Room was a little on the small size, but it is a budget hotel, so it was to be expected. Clean, with safe deposit box in room, so no problem with security. No views from windows, but who cares, dont pay to sit in a hotel room. Very nice staff, who were helpfull as best as there English would let them.

This hotel was in a bad part of Paris. Red light district. Virtually no services except an overpriced breakfast. No lighted hallways. Elevator so small you had to take luggage up one bag at a time. Room too small. Could not sit on toilet and shut the bathroom door. A large person could not get past the sink to get in the shower or use the sink. The staff at night could not help you at all and even during the day weren't very helpful. I think you could do better for the same price. The beds were comfortable. Phone doesnt work and they wont let you make a call overseas even if you pay them. Absolutely no room anywhere. The halls are so narrow and dark. YOu can hear everyone on your floor as if they are sleeping next to you.
