“Basic but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This is a very conviently located hotel in the centre of Paris within walking distance of the main attractions and right next to a metro station.
The rooms are small, with small TV sets (but why do you want to watch television while staying in Paris ?......), but clean with modern bath rooms.
There are some stairs to walk as we found the elevator somewhat slow to appear.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and communicate good in both French and English (possibly in more languages). Unfortunately they are only issuing one Wifi code for one device per room (although we managed to squeeze a second one out for our son's eventually).

All together not the Grand Hotel but a convenient place to stay in Paris (and much cheaper than the Grand Hotel..)

Room Tip: The rooms on the lower floors will do, as there is not much of an improved view from the upper floor...

This is a tale to dispel all preconceived notions of the French and their "attitude" toward Americans. We had rented an apartment in the building next door to this hotel. Before we left the States, I had purchased a voucher for a tour and upon checking my Ipad the night before the tour, found out that the tour operator would require a printed voucher and would not accept an electronic voucher. No printer in the apartment. No internet cafes. My husband suggested going to the hotel next door to ask if we could use their printer. What an imposition! But it was the best idea we had. This is a very simple block of buildings, but in a great location. Easy access to everything, including walking distance to food shops, as well as cafes. So, I approached the woman at the front desk, asking first "Parlez vous anglais". But of course, she replied. I then explained my predicament, offering to pay for using their printer. She wouldn't hear of it. The lobby of the hotel was cozy, and they had a computer for guest use in the corner. She had to set it up especially for me, since it was used with room number sign-ins, and I didn't have one. Took a while. When I tried to sign on to my e-mail, I somehow screwed up her set-up. She came back and fixed the problem, and showed me again how to access the e-mail and hit print. (BTW, the computer had a different keyboard than I had ever seen.) We offered again to pay or at least buy her a croissant the next morning, and she very sweetly declined. Told us to have a good time. Can't imagine the time we would have spent trying to track down a printer in Paris without her assistance. So, if you are interested in staying in Le Marais, I can attest to the great location and the excellent service here. How nice.

Hotel Ecole Centrale is a small hotel on a quiet street. It is one minute from the Arts et Metier Metro Stop on Line 11. Prices are reasonable. Rooms are very small, but clean. Hotel has air conditioning, but French hotels large and small provide limited A/C. Unfortunately, we were there when weather was not hot, but warm. Practically never can you get a French hotel to set your A/C to lower than F 70/C 21. Larger hotels offer fans, which help; Ecole Centrale does not.

Front desk staff were mostly helpful. Especially helpful was Mr. Amar Behsahnoune, who provided exceptional service--information, restaurant reservations, and with super persistence, he got us a taxi when the taxi we had arranged for the airport did not show. He was one of the most helpful hotel staff we met in two week of traveling in France.

Room Tip: At any time of the year, insist on a room in back. For warmer months, or if you like your room cool...

We choose this hotel primarily on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews. Our preferred hotel in this Paris neighbourhood, Hotel Paris France, being booked.

The hotel is 3* on the basis of its facilities; our superior double room, about 10m2, was well equipped; bed was comfortable; bathroom well laidout and modern fittings; TV; tea/coffee making facilities; stocked fridge; air con.

On entering the room, the air was stale and very musty, probably an old carpet, opening the double glazed window helped freshen the room. However, one noticed the sound from the street as the hotel faces onto a busy intersection and the scourge of Paris noisy mopeds were all around. Closing the window reduces the noise but during the night one can still hear the sound of emergency service; mopeds and trucks.

The worst noise was internal: whether from the lift movement, its door shutting; adjacent doors opening and closing; other guests listening to TV; talking or using the bathrooms. The level of sound insulation is extremely poor combined with small rooms squeezed around a very narrow corridor means you are sharing the life of fellow guests as they arrive back at 2am or as they shower and leave around 7am.

The staff attitude was so so: nothing rude just bored and doing what they need to get by; enthusiasm was completely absent.

Sadly this is somewhat typical quality of Paris hotels in this category even considering a charge of €190 (U$240) per night a good amount to pay.

One of the primary reasons for choosing this hotel was it's advertised air conditioning. We were given a room on the 5th floor where heat rises, only to discover that the "air conditioning" would not go below what showed as 22 C (72F), but felt more like 80F+ in reality. We were told this is a restriction in Paris, and the hotel has no control. However, the previous and following hotels we checked into had no such restriction. Ecole Centrale also had no fans to offer, despite the heat. The room was tiny and had some unpainted plaster blotches on the wall. The drinks refrigerator didn't work. The hotel location is exceptionally good (nice neighborhood and 1 short block to Metro) and the male desk clerks were very nice and helpful (the female, no so much). However, if you are at all sensitive to the heat, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Suggest a room on the back side, as front rooms get a lot of traffic noise.

This hotel is in The Marais area. It's in a good position and the metro was just across the road. We were disappointed with the "free internet" as we could only have one devise connected at a time and we had trouble accessing it as it was very slow. The staff was friendly and helpful. The elevator was very old and I was concerned that it would stop between floors.
We could not use the safe as it was locked. We reported this but they didn't fix it. We didn't worry as it was too small and not fixed to anything. Anyone could walk away with it. We didn't see the point of having a safe. The room was small but had coffee facilities.
We had breakfast there the last day but it was expensive and not worth the money we paid.

Room Tip: Request the first floor.

Quaint hotel in the 3rd sector. Close to many train stations. Walking distant to Notre Dame. Very clean hotel. Room bigger than we thought it would be. Staff on reception very helpful. Good price for Paris. Some nice Cafes close by..
