“The best location, very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2011

I was on BVJ for 4 nights and was amazing. First because the location. Perfect. You can go everywhere by feet. If you want, you can take the metro very close. It´s not a perfect location for the people who wants parties (stay at Quartier Latin), but is perfect for people who wants know the principal points of Paris. The staff was very kindly, the rooms and bathrooms was very clean. There´s a good breakfest. The bads was very good and there´s no noise. The only problems is that the building have 4 floors, and no elevator.

BVJ Louvre is right in the city centre, a few steps away from Louvre Museum, just the perfect location to visit the city!
I was there while looking for an apartment in Paris, and the atmosphere at the hostel just made me feel like home. Staff is very friendly and breakfast is very good. I could go to most of the places just walking, which is very good when days are so short and with so many things to do! Rooms are basic and clean, and I could meet plenty of other tourists and travellers.

Bureau des Voyages de la Jeunesse
Clean just about, barren, no facilities, no free internet, no bar, horrible furniture and beds, the only good thing is that there is plenty of rooms and since no one goes there you can get a room last minute at any time if you are desperate.

This Hostel is huge, they have many rooms and the price is definitely too high (29 Euro average) for what they offer. Not that this hostel is a trip to hell – the place is kept clean, no bugs, no smell – but rooms are so basic that the only thing you find in them is your bed and a sink. The toilets are horrible, totally barren, no chair, no furniture no where to hang your towel or leave your soap bar. The worst thing I have ever seen in a hostel they have it: when you want to take a shower you have to press a button but the water only comes out as long as you press it. The very second you release the button the water stop coming out of the shower, so if you want to shower you gotta keep the button pressed with one hand and wash yourself with the other.. if you can. Breakfast is the only really good thing, tasty, good baguette, you can get plenty of food and drinks and they are made fresh for you on request as long as you like.
The great thing about this hostel is the location, literally 1 minute away from The Louvre Museum. Anyway, don’t go here it’s a really depressing atmosphere, I have been told it used to be a whorehouse in the second world war: the feeling you get when you enter is that of a creepy horror movie. Don’ t go here, I went only because my flight was cancelled and every hostel was fully booked.
If you are in a group it’s better, if you go alone you can have bad dreams, as I did ;)

I reserved the room one day in advance, for one night, by internet.
I was in the hotel at 11.30
My room was available starting at 14.30.
I had to check out next day at 9.30. So you do the math, is a quite strange schedule in my opinion.
Luggage room is free but God bless you and you stuff . I didn't see any effectiv guarding of the luggage, anybody could walk inside and take whatever they like from any luggage.
Lockers are available for 2 Euro. To be specific, 2 EURO FOR EACH TIME YOU ARE OPENING THE LOCKER ! Good one, huh ?
I payed 35 Euro for a place in a double room. Again, God bless who is going to be your partner.
The good points are that the location is excellent, you are in the middle of Paris.
The service is friendly .
The cleanless is acceptable, considering how many sort of people are coming in.

I reviewed this hostel prior to leaving for the trip and although the reviews were mixed, my daughter and I ended up staying at this hostel for less than one night> we were assigned a room that was about 15 flights up narrow winding stairs (no lift) and than in a loft type bunk that was only accessible by a single rung ladder (think fire escape). as if that was not bad enough, we were awoken at 1 am to two men hovering over us calling out explicits. then they disappeared for about 30 minutes and we awoke again to everyone in the room yelling and screaming and the lights going off and on. than these guys climbed back up to the loft and started throwing everything that belonged to us and the other girl over the edge into the main room - they did not stop yelling and screaming and proceeded to drag the girl out of her bed by ripping away her blankets and sheets. It was frightening and the worst I have ever seen in a hostel. We left this hostel at 430 am without a refund or a care by the management staff. We were told the hostel over booked the room and there was nothing they could do about any of it. I do not recommend this hostel and I certainly wished I would have listened closer to the bad reviews of those who posted before ours. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

Very noisy, got about 5 hours sleep. Got woken up by kids hammering on door at 4 am and then running away which they thought was funny. Staff were rude and sarcy. Left rucksack in room during day, came back to find the door unlocked and 40 Euros had been stolen from rucksack, so the staff are DISHONEST. Challenged the staff who denied everything and were rude. Also showers and toilets disgusting, water luke warm at best and bed clothes inadequate.

I stayed at both the BVJ hostels last month with a friend. I wanted to thank you for your hospitality. The hostel was enjoyable and should I have friends traveling to Paris in the future, will definitely recommend this hostel based on both my customer service experience and its location(s)!
