“Vive Paris au Royal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

My daughter and I travelled to Paris in June of 2012. We were very pleased with Le Royal, as it was located very close to Boulevard Montparnasse, the bustling main street of Montparnasse. The subway, the restaurants, a café with amazing baguettes and reasonably priced espresso, la Gare Montparnasse(train station), outdoor market, and several sights were within walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel staff was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. A hearty and varied European breakfast was included and we were surprised that some hot entrees, such as hard boiled eggs, were a part of it.
The room had a newly renovated large salle de bains (bath room with tub and separate shower) with a separate room for the toilet. We also had free wi-fi. It was rated as a 3 star hotel, but its amenities, staff, washrooms, cleanliness and location were closer to a 4 star. It far surpassed the North American 3 star hotels where I would never stay. My daughter and I were very pleased with our trip to Paris and the informative, attentive staff at Le Royal helped to make it a more pleasant experience.

Stayed here with 3 of my friends to celebrate an 18th birthday. The hotel staff are all very friendly and willing to help.
Excellent location - a direct route from Gare du Nord where the eurostar arrives, and a direct line to Bir Hakeim where the opera house & Eiffel Tower are located. There is an array of restaurants, bars etc near the hotel and a short walk away, in Montparnasse itself, near the tower, there is a shopping centre with many shops and it was surrounded by a market whilst we were there.
The rooms were a good size, clean and there is free wifi too.
Breakfast was sufficient - pastries, scrambled egg, ham, cheese & bread, and yoghurts and fruit, and machines were available to make tea or coffee all day.

Overall, a very a pleasent stay. Would definitely return.

We stayed in this nice hotel with 5 friends and we are all agree that regarding location/ room price & service quality, this is the best budget hotel in Paris... Rooms are enough size, breakfast can be little bit more rich but efficent, reception is helpfull and free wifi is very handy... For visiting Paris, it is perfect that close to all attractions around 10 minutes by taxi... Around hotel there are many restaurants & cafes...

We stayed at the Le Royal Hotel, and the location was very convenient. It was walking distance to several metro stations, and it was about a 10 minute walk to the Montparnasse Metro. At check in, the desk clerk told us that he gave us an upgraded room, and it was larger than other similar hotels in Paris that we have stayed in. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was clean. The breakfast wasn’t as good as in other hotels that we stayed in, but it was adequate.

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Paris with my 11 year old. Hotel Le Royal was perfect for our stay. It is a small hotel with excellent service. The staff was very pleasant and very helpful. We really felt at home and felt the staff looked out for our well being during our stay there. Breakfast was a plus - pasteries, meats, cheese, fruit and yogurt - juice and coffee. Plenty of selection and the ease of sitting in the breakfast room was perfect. The rooms are Paris sized (small) but decorated very well and very clean. The front desk staff was terrific. Very comfortable place to stay. We felt very safe.

We were booked in here with friends who normally stay at the Pullman Hotel. It came highly recommended as the company our friend works for is Paris based and they have booked other staff into it. Although our room was small we liked it as it had a window which we could open - and I like fresh air and life!!! The bathroom was terribly small, especially the shower!!! And needing to step UP into it - and to get out - was scary. The handrail has been badly placed and is not where one would 'naturally' hold onto a rail. The most disappointing part from our point of view were the staff. We were there a week so we had ample time to make a judgment. After two days I needed to complain re cleaning. Initially it had been well cleaned then it was a 'lick and a promise'. This was rectified after my complaint and we were given a bottle of champagne. Not necessary but nice. Twice I sought advice from reception. Once for directions to the nearest Laundromat. The young (Asian) man was less than helpful. I asked him a second time, with my husband with me, and again it was very 'vague'. Nonethless, we found it - no thanks to him. I had my phone stolen at Sacre Coeur and needed to report this to the police. The girl gave us directions, telling us it was 5 minutes away. 45 minutes later - and only thanks to a lovely young waiter at a café - did we locate it!!! There's a gorgeous, gorgeous older man - a big man - who was SO HELPFUL!! I mentioned this to the girl and she dismissed him as 'Oh, he's only a receptionist!!!' - how dreadful!!! He could not have helped us more. Breakfast - don't bother. Same every day and very meagre. We only had it once preferring to go out to one of the (many) cafes nearby. That is the best thing about Hotel Le Royal - its location is fantastic!!! Internet access quality pretty poor and the two (free) computers in the foyer are ancient - they need to go to heaven!!! My girlfriend and I shared the champagne on our last night in Paris - and when I asked if we could please have it chilled and drink it in the (nice) sitting area opposite the reception area - I was told by the Asian that 'we don't want people to think that this is a bar!' - heaven forbid, it is a HOTEL after all. He begrudgingly brought it to us - and we did enjoy it thanks - but not the comments!!! Totally unnecessary. Maybe we should have taken it outside and shared it on the bench OUTSIDE the Hotel?!

Room Tip: If you like fresh air (as I do) and being part of the life - ask for a room overlooking the street...

My partner and I stayed in this hotel as part of a romantic trip to Paris. The hotel is a cute, quaint establishment rather than an enormous monolith of a hotel. The staff are friendly and remembered our name/room number, which we found very endearing!

While the room we had are quite small, they're very clean, well-designed and well-appointed. The location has great transport links, so easy to get around Paris (and the Jardin du Luxembourg is relatively closeby). The pastries and coffee at breakfast set you up well for the day - the rest of the breakfast food can be skipped without missing out on much.

Overall, we found this place great value, and really enjoyed the very helpful and friendly staff.
