“Nice hotel, fair price, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

This "boutique hotel" is a small hotel a short block from Boul. St. Germaine, and a couple of blocks from the Seine. Metro was close by. The rooms are small but not uncomfortably so. The bath in our room ($170) was fine (tub with shower). Free wifi was ok, but not always easy to log on on an android smartphone. The room was impeccable in cleanliness, and the staff was very helpful. We didn't eat the breakfast because we usually eat a light meal and theirs was expensive. We would stay here again in a minute. The elevator was small (2 people or 1 person and a bag).

Charming small hotel with excellent service, but the rooms are very, very small - and especially the bathrooms. Very nice breakfast buffet with good selection. Location could not be better. One can see immediately a great courtesy and helpfulness of the front desk.

Firstly the good: very pleasant and helpful English speaking staff. Good location, just off Blvd St. Germain, down a little from the more densely tourist-populated site streets. Pleasant accommodation overall. Nice breakfast included.

The not so good: room was nicely decorated but very small which is to be expected in this type of hotel in Paris but there is practically no flat storage for clothes, with the shelves simply missing, and this was in a 'deluxe', 'executive room'.

First morning the shower pull 'switch' was missing. A little bolt was then attached which provided function (something to pull on) if not form! The second morning there was no hot water in the building.

Two other general grouses:

Old fashioned mechanical key. One per room with weight attached. All sorts of practical downsides including real security risks: door must be mechanically locked on both sides. If a second occupant follows the first, the first must leave the door open for them or manually unlock. Precludes taking a nap or a shower! Really forgot how the world worked before hotels added electronic locks.

There is free Wi-Fi and it is decent speed, but like so many mom and pop hotels they use an Internet service provider who insists on monitoring use by individual device, requiring different log on credentials, each with only a 72 hour life, for every logged-on device: in our case five. In today's world this seems the absurd equivalent of putting an individual, time limited biometric switch on each lamp or bathroom faucet!

But if this is par for the course in a three star Paris hotel then this is more an observation than a complaint. We were in Paris for a family wedding and others chose the hotel for geographical convenience. We have typically stayed in four star and are increasingly renting apartments through Airbnb, which leaves us rather sensitive to the inconveniences of hotels like this one.

It may well rate above average for its class and room rate and the genuinely friendly and helpful staff made the stay, on balance, pleasant.

My husband and I just got back from an eight night stay at the hotel and we could not have been happier. From the moment when we entered the hotel, we felt at home. We arrived before check-in. Patricia greeted us and, to our surprise, we had a choice of two rooms to take and immediately occupy.

After we dropped off our luggage, downstairs we went where Patricia pulled out a map and created an walking path for us around the neighborhood.

The next morning we enjoyed the wonderful breakfast. It is both European and American in the style of a buffet. It is absolutely delicious and included scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, several sweet and savory breads, cheeses, jams, cold cuts, cereal, hot chocolate, several types of coffee, tea, whole fruits, juices. There was plenty to eat and enjoy in a lovely dining area.

At night, you can enjoy coffee or wine in the salon/bar area. It is very reasonably priced and is an excellent way to start or end your dinner adventure.

The rooms are small but lovely. We had a deluxe. It comes with a full bath, flat screen tv, mini bar etc. It has everything you really need.

Everyone at the hotel was friendly and truly interested in making our stay at the hotel one of the high points of our trip. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: If you really need a lot of room, size up. A very large man would not be happy in the deluxe or sta...

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights the beginning of September (our favorite month in Paris) and we were greeted by Patricia who stated "there is a problem with your reservation". Yikes, not the best words to hear after an 8 hour flight. They didn't have a deluxe room available like we reserved but had a standard room instead. We went to check it out and NO WAY was that going to work. Room was way too small for two ladies and luggage. Patricia was sooooo helpful and said she would do her best to sort this out but if we would like to stay in an executive room for the first night we could enter it right away. WOW, that was music to our ears. We were tired and just wanted to rest for a bit before embarking on what was about to be a very long day. She then told us we were welcome to go downstairs and help ourselves to breakfast!! Are you kidding - are we in Paris? So off we went to the most amazing breakfast we have found in Paris. It is not big, but it is perfect. Fresh croissants, breads, cheese, meats, fruit, yogurts, cereals, eggs, espresso, hot chocolate machine and a machine to squeeze your oranges!!!!!! What more could you possibly want. The room is small but very welcoming. The breakfast staff is polite and efficient.

The standard rooms are small, but the deluxe and executive rooms are perfect. All with tub/showers with great water pressure. Because of the excellent position of this hotel to most everything, you won't be in your room that much!

St. Germaine is by far our favorite place to stay in Paris and this hotel is very centrally located to great restaurants and our ever favorite - le bon marche!

We now have a perfect place to stay on our annual birthday trip to Paris.

Room Tip: Stay on the 1st floor then you can prevent using the elevator because it is very small.

Stayed four nights at l'Academie at the end of August for a visit to this wonderful city. The location is literally perfect to sightsee everything and in the heart of the evening dining experiences. The staff were extremely helpful and polite and my wife and I were impressed by the overall character of the hotel. The room was a litte small but when you are only using it to sleep and wash it was not a problem. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: If worried about the size possibly upgrade from a classic room

I had a great experience at Hotel de l'Academie. The location is fantastic - a short walk to the Seine and a Batobus stop (Saint Germaine). Also a 10 minute walk to the Musee d'Orsay. You can walk the entire city from this central location.

The price was quite reasonable for the location. The rooms are small (as are most all Parisian hotel rooms) but clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, they have an airport shuttle that is a great price and shares rides with other small area hotels (van of no more than 8 ppl for 36E for 2 people).
