“Worth the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2011

I stayed in this hotel for three nights and I think the stay met my expectations. I was just looking for a decent and safe place to stay in Paris that is not very far from the main tourist attractions and which is cheap as well. I booked in advance with the nonrefundable option and I got it at 40 euro per night. The breakfast was cheap at 5 euros per person. Breakfast included, corn flex, bread, yogurt, cake, coffee. The room can accommodate three people, had a wash basin next to bed, and decent but very clean wash rooms. The metro station Laumere (line 5) is very close by and I think it is even safe to come back till midnight. So, it is possible to wait near the Eiffel tower till 10-11pm late night to see the lighting arrangements and then come back to the hotel by midnight.

VISITED MAY 2010

Rooms basic but have everything you would need. No aircon but but blackout blind on big window kept room cool even when we were there and it was 40 degrees in the day. Toilet and shower in capsules but perfectly useable - sink in corner of room which some may find odd but didn't actually make a difference. There is not a wardrobe but fine for short stays and enough places to hang a few outfits. Good selection for breakfast and TVs in breakfast room, but strange set up with trays only and no plates - although again this wasn't actually a problem for a quick breakfast. Hotel is located in a nice leafy area with a handy supermarket next door, relatively close to Gare du Nord but a bus/taxi/metro journey from the main sites.
Overall a good budget hotel.

Most travels I do is in Etap hotels, because they are considerably cheap, near to transportations (2 metro stations) and clean and comfortable rooms. Free wireless internet is a cool bonus :) Another very good thing of this hotel is that there is a supermarket just beside the hotel.

Stayed at Etap La Villette for 6 nights. This hotel is very basic. The room was clean and the staff is helpful and nice.
Pros: Free wifi internet. Very convenient location, close to Jaures and Louis Blanc metro stations. There's a small supermarket right downstairs.
Cons: I slept on the top bunk during my stay. The bed was not very comfortable. The sheets smelled of vinegar, which kills germs, but wasn't used to the smell. Another weird smell coming from the toilet room.. like sewage or something. Had to request a hair dryer from the front desk and leave my drivers license with them. When I returned it before checking out, the staff member informed me that I wasn't supposed to keep it for longer than 30 minutes at a time! The other staff who let me have the hair dryer never said anything about that. Also, the towels are pretty small and worn out. And there is no phone in the room!
Check out the little boulangerie on avenue Jean-Jaures called Le Mitron de Robin. The cafe au lait and beignets are so good! Had the pain au chocolat too, and it was amazing.

Great location close to Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, so that was great because it was easy when we visited and also to learn to metros. This is a fairly long subway ride to all sites but Paris is huge so it's understandable.
very few TV channels,
the price is right for Paris
I recommend

Etap is basically a Formule1(same Accor hotel group) with the shower and toilet positioned in your room rather than down the corridor. For a few extra euros you get the privacy. Maybe not enough for a romantic weekend or dazzle a young lady with your worldliness and wealth but otherwise it does the job.

I paid 42e which for a secure, clean if basic place to crash within the Peripherique which is good value. The location is good being on a wide boulevard with nearby Metro stations to get you to where you really want to be in Paris. We found some good bars and a very good restaurant with a couple of hundred metres of the hotel. I felt safe late at night on the street.

Treat it as a base and not a destination. Spend what you save on Parisian food and drink and enjoy being out in Paris rather than holed up in a more comfortable and expensive room. Stay an extra night ...
