“Diverse Exciting Area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

When in Paris don't forget to WALK through Le Marais. This is the Jewish/Gay quarter an area where many Americans are buying up apartments. The hi-lite of he area is Place des vosges...a stunning former Royal Palace built around a large square. Le Marais is a great place to "people watch". and shop of course.

“disapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

At one time I think this might have been a nice area, but it seemed a little run down to me. There were many vacant premises. La place des Vosges was quite desertedand without the atmosphere I was expecting.

“It's where we stayed and it wasn't tourist central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Mind you, there definitely are tourists in Le Marais - pretty much all of Paris is... but, there is certainly a more "Parisian" vibe here... more people spoke French than another language.

As an FYI, it is "boys town" but if you're what I would consider to be a "normal" person than it shouldn't bother you.

The shopping is good -- more local than chains -- and the food/bar options are good too. Close to the Metro (subway), but not super busy walking on the streets.

I'd recommend staying and visiting here if in Paris...but, not if you're strapped for time, or if it's your first time in Paris as you'll likely want to spend more time on the Champs, Latin Quarter and so on.

“Great Place for Strolling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

From the Place des Vosges to Châtelet one comes upon interesting boutiques and lovely 17th century "hôtels particuliers." A must for understanding and appreciating Paris.
