“Perfect location, very nice and helpful staff, a bit overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2014

Like most of Paris hotels, Central Hotel's rooms are small but they are ok and light.

Pros:
1- The hotel has a perfect location; area is very live, full of restaurants, supermarkets/malls.
2- It is in the middle between the major metro station "Montparnasse Bienvenue" and the stations "Edgard Quinet" and "Gaite", 5 minutes walking to each.
3- Montparnasse Train station is 5 mins away of the hotel, which has also a station for "Air France Airports shuttle bus" which gives you a ride for both airports for 16.5 Euro.
4- Supermarkets "Dia" and "Monoprix" are directly infront of the hotel
5- A big commercial center (C&A, La Lafayette,...) is around the corner and a small one Gaite commercial center that has (Tatti, Darti, ...) is just 5 mins at the end of the hotel's street.
6- The staff was really friendly and helpful, smiling all the day, and kept helping us in many situations, to keep our food cold, to provide hot water, etc..
7- One of the most comfortable bed and pillow I have even slept in.
8- If interested, they provide a private shuttle bus to the airport

Cons:
1- As I paid 200 Euro per night for a triple room which is too much, I had high expectations of the room supplies, but the room did not have any supplies, no fridge, no kettle, no hot drinks, no free coffee/tea at reception, on-and-off WiFi. We had to put our food in and out in the reception fridge everyday, we had to go downstairs to the kitchen to bring hot water to make our own hot drinks everyday. This was really tiring.
2- The walls are really thin, you can hear all conversations of whoever staying in the room beside you, you can hear everything in the hallway and even when the AC of the next room is on.
3- Breakfast area is dark and in a basement; it looks gloomy, it is recommended you have your breakfast outside the hotel, there is a boulangerie at the end of the street.

The hotel is average and over-priced, only the hotel staff made our stay easy, comfortable and nice, really thanks to you.

Room Tip: Take a room at higher floors to avoid street noise, and to have nice view.

We stayed here one night to break up our journey as we had travelled on Eurostar and wanted a day in Paris with a hotel in Montparnasse as we had a TGV journey next day. This hotel is literally a 5 min walk away but a little oasis with local bars and cafés right on the doorstep. The hotel appears to have been recently renovated and the rooms are typically Parisienne small but very clean. We had a lovely nights sleep and we're refreshed for our onwards journey. We will definitely return next summer.

I stayed in this Montparnasse spot in 2004, 2009, and 2012, each time because I was taking a train to Bordeaux and then coming back to Paris to catch a plane. If this is your itinerary, or something like it, the Central Hotel is perfect. It's a short block from the Montparnasse train station, and a bus from/to CDG leaves from a similarly convenient spot.

A friend stayed here in August 2014 on my recommendation and confirmed my impressions.

The Central is a basic, somewhat generic Paris hotel. Despite the fact that Henry Miller lived here in the 1930s, embarking on a passionate affair with Anais Nin, the Central's tiny lobby and small, clean rooms with modern bathrooms are without any charm. Nevertheless, the hotel is always packed.

However, the hotel overlooks a charming, leafy handkerchief park, and the surrounding neighborhood is lively. Crêperies abound, a legacy from the Brittany natives who got off the train in Montparnasse a century ago. The area remains a transportation hub; it's easy to navigate Paris by metro or bus from here.

It's also an easy walk to the grand cafés of the 1920s, La Coupole, Le Dôme, Le Select. The rue du Cherche-Midi is fun to explore; St-Germain-des-Prés is less than an half-hour walk, as are the Luxembourg Gardens.

All in all, the Central Hotel represents a fair price for a great location. Wi-fi works well; multilingual is reasonably helpful.

Room Tip: Upper floors have remodeled, air-conditioned rooms. Choose one facing the park. Breakfast is reasona...

Great Location next to many bars and restaurants . About a 20 minute walk to St Germain which also has great places to eat and shop. The walk is pleasant to PSG very enjoyable and safe neighbourhood to walk in and around.
We found the hotel to very clean, including the rooms.
The staff here are Superb, If you want a hotel where the staff treat guests excellent, from helping with directions to arranging pick ups or helping with printing, nothing Is to much for them here.
Thank you to all the staff.

Highly Recommend.

I had a single room (Room #20) that was big enough for me with a "garden view." Don't be fooled. It's a dump out back. Keep the curtains closed if you're on that side. The bathroom was also pretty small, but doable. The towels were completely worn and to my absolute shock, the maids did not bring fresh towels when they cleaned the room every day. All they did was take the trash and make the bed, so I had to ask for more when I realized that. The walls are pretty thin so you can hear everything in the hallway and when someone is using the shower or hair dryer. The WiFi was also really in and out, so that added to the difficulties. This hotel is fine if you're in and out like I was, but nothing spectacular or romantic in any way, if that's what you're looking for. I paid 85 euros per night after having difficulties using their online booking service, where I was offered a price of 60 euros per night. I was only okay with 85 per night because of the location. It was right near two different metro stations, so getting everywhere was a breeze. All in all, I would recommend this spot for someone who just need a bed and a shower and who wants to be close to the center. Otherwise, I'd say you should find a different spot.

Hubby, 12 yr old daughter & I stayed here for 3 nights recently. Well placed for bars, restaurants & metro. Room was of a reasonable size & our daughters bed was a large single, not a sofa bed, & it was very comfortable. Our bed was also comfortable & the bathroom a good size too. Shower was excellent. We were on the top floor (level 6) & it was pretty quiet, despite the area being lively at night. Once the windows were closed you couldn't hear a thing) Sadly the walls are a little thin & if you have inconsiderate neighbours then it can disturb you. We were woken by a very noisy family one night. Such a shame as we are always very careful to be quiet when returning after an evening out!
Negatives: room was very shabby & very dusty in places. Really needs a good clean & redecoration. However, the bathroom was clean & so was the bedding.
We didn't bother trying the breakfast as we bought croissants & juice from a Patisserie on our way to the Metro each morning. Much cheapers & the croissants were still warm!
Great area to base yourself for touring the city & some good restaurants & bars to choose from.

It was a last minute deal and when booked it didn't specify no AC for single room. It's really hot in summer. And night time there's street noise as it's backyard for other apartment and day time there's construction noise across the street. The internet is unusable. I could hear noise from next door and people's door slam at night. The room and bathroom is large for Paris standard but the noise and AC made it an unrestful stay and quite expensive for what it was.
