We were 'passing through' Paris (08.09.12) on our way back to UK from Holiday, reason being to dine at our favourite restaurant (Petrelle) - so booked a convenient and well priced hotel near the Garde du Nord. 3 of us, husband and myself, plus friend.
We were checked in very pleasently and given our rooms, we a double on the first floor, our friend a single on 6th floor. We asked if it was possible to be closer to our friend and were told, " No, the hotel was full. This is the busiest time in Paris".
Our friend's room was on 6th floor, a tired attic room that was very hot and as she said, "to open the window and lie in her bed could be viewed by the windows across the road. The hallway was dingy and dark and frankly I am scared up there, I don't feel safe".
She phoned to reception who argued with her that it was because she didn't like the room. The receptionist agreed to see what she could do. Some time later the request to move was again phoned down etc. With nothing being done our friend presented herself at reception and stood there till the receptionist 'managed' to find her another room. This all took approximately and hour. Finding our friend another room was not accomplished with grace.
On checking out the next morning we asked the night receptionist if the hotel was full - "No, we are not full". This receptionist was exrtremely pleasent and helpful.
In common Scottish parlance, "we'll no be back", and the hotel should heed this and do something about why we won't be back!!
