Hotel is great place to begin your Paris experience. The rooms are individually decorated and very comfortable. The English speaking staff was very helpful and the location is great. The neighborhood is full of restaurants and the main boulevards of St. Germain and St. Michel are only a couple of blocks away. Notre Dame and the Ile St. Louis are also within walking distance. Instead of the hotel breakfast, we had breakfast every morning at a cafe across the street that served coffee and crossants for only 3 euro. The hotel also has excellent free wifi. We first stayed in Room 15 on the 3rd floor which was a little small. Our next stay was in Room 22 which had a balcony and was wonderful.

nice hotel, clean, well appointed. courteous and helpful staff. my single room was quite small and on sixth floor, elevator only until the 5th. safe for single woman. bad view but didn't matter as in a great location. near metro station, flea market, bread and cheese shops, saint germain, shops, walking distance from notre dame, rue mouffetard.

I've stayed at the St Jaques on numerous occassions; with family, friends and most recently with my boyfriend and I simply wouldn't contemplate staying anywhere else.
The staff are very polite and friendly and speak excellent English, should you be a little lacking in language skills. The rooms are beautifully furnished, many of them with pleasent views and rarely noisy except in the height of summer.
But best of all is the location, literally five minutes from Notre Dame. You won't get a better hotl for the same money anywhere in Paris.

Stayed here for my third visit over a span of 12 years. We return to Hotel St. Jacques for the location, relative value for Paris hotel rates, and a taste of French charm. The rates are higher than they used to be (even factoring the currency fluctuations). But overall, I still think this is a solid bet for first time visitors and return visits. The bathrooms have been newly updated which is a good improvement. In my experience, the service has been consistently adequate and helpful.

About the location: super convenient to Notre Dame, walking distance to many things and the Metro is not far away. We stumbled upon a Saturday morning fresh market a block away that charmed the socks off some of my family who were first time visitors to Paris. A fair selection of cafes nearby as well as a shop for water, etc.
