Just arrived back from a 2 night stay & to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I spent 2 nights in the Relais Spa Chessy, near Disney prior to making my way over to Hotel Paradis to explore Central Paris & the experiences were shockingly different. Hotel Paradis is situated fairly central but in the back streets among old derelict buildings & filthy streets. Upon entering the building, the reception area is inviting & urban. However there is only one elevator, small enough for 2 persons & a small case & is very claustrophobic. The hallways are dark, winding & small & the rooms are no better. We were on the top floor, albeit the views are beautiful the patio door did not close properly so not only was there a draft but also the insecurity that anyone from the landings either side could get in. Despite notifying reception I was told it was the only room available. I stayed with my young son so it was a restless sleep worrying about our safety. The wardrobe space was incredibly small, enough to hang a change of clothing & a coat but no storage for anything else. The shower room was tight & cramped & hard to manoeuvre in. To put it into prospective I'm only 5ft1 and my son is 13 so between us we don't take up much space but this whole experience was like being in a tiny capsule. I overslept the first morning after staying up for most of the night watching the doors of the patio for any signs of movement. I also fell asleep with the heating full blast to over compensate the draft coming in, which left me feeling deidrated & restless. We pre-booked breakfast at €12 each & despite not having it I still had to pay the full amount. Please note there is no room service in this hotel so you better walk with your own beverage & snacks, but with no fridge or kettle facilities you'll needn't bother with anything fresh. Finally, this was my first trip to Paris so I'm unaware of how to get around etc. The train station Gare Du Nord is 10-15 minute walk but as we had suit cases I asked reception to call for a taxi. Had they told me that there would be a surcharge I may have thought twice. To my astonishment the taxi company charge you from the moment the cab driver is notified to pick you up, as it was rush hour I paid just shy of €20 for a 5 minute drive.
I would never stay in this hotel again or recommend it. Of course everyone's experience will be different but I like brightness & comfort & this failed dramatically in both of these areas, god only knows how larger families would get by on a longer stay.
