“Charming Little Hotek - Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2008

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel. We found it to ve very clean and comfotable. The location was perfect for eating and drinking venues. 2 minutes walk to underground station "Jules Joffrin" travel to all major tourists attractions was very fast & easy. staff were very helpful. would certainly recommend this hotel, room was good size and had all we needed. breakfast was supprisingly very nice. The only thing that was a little annoying was the fact that we had no air-con however we were sittuated high enough up that we could open up our beautiful bay window and get the breeze come through.

  • Liked — Location & Friendly Staff
  • Disliked — No Aircon , Spiral Staircase - slow lift !

We stayed at the Eden from 8th to 13th August 2008. The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet area of Montmartre, well away from all the noise but close enough to the metro at Jules Joffrin (line 12) which is just 50 metres away and gives you fast access to all the sights.
The hotel itself is very small and cosy. The rooms are ideal and are cleaned every day to a high standard, The breakfast is small but adequate enough to get you started. The staff are very friendly and speak good English.
The lift is only very small but is useful if you can't walk up the stairs to your room.
I would certainly recommend the Eden as an excellent budget hotel; it's not the Ritz but it is perfectly adequate and I would definitely stay there again. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by if you wish to eat or drink in the area.

ROOM
We stayed in a 'superior' room on the 3rd floor (36). I had read some reviews about the sound from the metro but this didn't bother us at all. We had a double room facing into the courtyard so it was very quiet apart from someone emptying a dustbin late one morning (when we had a lazy morning). The room was much bigger than I had been expecting for Paris with a good sized bathroom (bath and shower). There were some marks on the wall but it was very clean and perfect for us.

LOCATION
I wanted somewhere in Montmartre where I had never been before, but not too close to Pigalle which I thought might be dodgy at night. I liked the area around Jules Joffrin. 30 seconds walk from the Metro / Montmartre Bus. Very close to Montmartre sights - we walked there in the day up the hill and took the metro and furnicular when we returned on our last evening.

BUYING FOOD FOR PICNICS / EATING
There is a small shop selling mineral water (1l was 0.80 EUR) and provisions on the street opposite and we bought tasty and filling baguettes (3.60 EUR) just around the corner. Go a bit further and you can sample cheap kebabs (5 EUR with chips), couscous, etc.

TRAVEL
When we first arrived we came out of the Metro at Marcadet-Poissoniers (line 4 from Gare du Nord) by mistake instead of connecting with the 12. So instead of wasting another 2 tickets from our 'carnet' of 10, we walked. Even with our luggage it was really not far. There are loads of eating places on the way. There is a small lift which just fit us and our luggage.

We allowed 90 mins by Metro and RER C3 to Ch de Gaulle airport and were there in good time to write and post postcards before checking in.

We walked a hell of a lot in the centre and saw most things. Metro system is very efficient. Never had to wait more than 4 mins.

BREAKFAST / OTHER
Breakfast was simple but OK. My partner, a real carnivore! :), was disappointed there was no meat or cheese. Expect a small bread roll and croissant +tea/coffee and you won't be disappointed. As it is served near the reception, you may have to wait a few minutes with the local paper before a table is free but this wasn't a problem for us. They came in every day wanting to change the towels - we said after 1 day they were not dirty and to save the environment by washing them after we had left in 3 day's time - they seemed surprised! Staff on the whole were very friendly, unobtrusive and helpful.

SUMMARY
Lots of leaflets in reception if you need inspiration on how to spend your time. We were on a fairly strict budget but I think this hotel was value for money for Paris. Would recommend and stay there again. We booked with breakfast over the hotel's own website as was best deal we could find at the time. Having seen my 2nd, 3rd and 4th choices of hotel whilst roaming around, I can say i think the Eden was the best location. We paid 234 EUR for 3 nights in a double room (72 EUR I think + breakfast x3). Might skip breakfast if stayed again but all part of the hotel experience to see fellow guests from France, Belgium, UK, Poland, Korea - all over.

  • Liked — Excellent location. Value for money.
  • Disliked — Basic breakfast perhaps overpriced

Adequate hotel for a sightseeing holiday. Rooms are small but clean. Beds clean and comfortable. No bath, shower only in our room.
Breakfast basic and can run out of cereals if you not up early!! Breakfast is in the reception area in photo, you may have to wait your turn. Tip, order breakfast in your room.
Staff are a mixed bag some have a pleasant welcoming smile, others well its like what do you want a la Faulty Towers.
A fabulous restaurant 2 doors down called Olivier, Superb we went twice it was that good.
3 stars are hard to see how they got them.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2008

I spent three nights here with my 9-year-old son. The room was basic and small but clean. It did not appear to have been refurbished in quite some time. I would not have been as happy if a younger child was with me; there was a loose electrical outlet right by the door and the handle into the (good-sized) bathroom did not work well. For our needs it was a great value, though. Housekeeping was efficient and the staff at the front desk generally polite, although they could not answer some questions I thought they would have been able to (such as approximately how much a taxi to the Gare du Nord would cost, or the name of a business nearby where I could get Internet access -- they gave me rough directions but could not tell me what it was called). There was a nice collection of tourist literature in the lobby, which was helpful.

The location is great (near the Jules Joffrin metro and a bus stop, including the Montmartre bus that you can take to the top of Montmartre). The neighborhood was non-touristy and also not as seedy as some of the neighborhoods just below Montmartre.

The small TV and lack of channels mentioned in another review were not a problem for us because my son was exhausted by the end of each day. He was happy to watch a few minutes of soccer and fall asleep. The room was relatively quiet; we did hear the Metro rumbling underneath but not as much street noise as I had expected.

Breakfast was served by a very nice lady every morning; we had ordered in advance (which is less expensive). If all you want is a croissant or roll and some coffee or tea, it's fine. We ended up visiting local boulangeries anyway, so I would probably skip the breakfast if I went back.

It would have been nice to have Internet access or even just a station somewhere for checking e-mails. But, overall, I thought it was a very good value for Paris.

We loved our stay in this little hotel! Its basic but very clean and pleasant. Our room was spacious, seemed to be newly reburbished and had a good sized en suite. The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh sheets and towels were provided.
Breakfast was fully worth it! Lovely freshly bought french croissants and bread rolls with orange juice and tea or coffee.
The staff were welcoming and helpful.
The hotel is quite far out of central paris but the nearby metro station makes travelling very easy.
Check out some of the local restaurants. We found some nice little italian restaurants for good prices.
This hotel is excellent for those who are on a budget but still want somewhere to stay which is comfortable and clean.
