“Basic. Reasonable value for money. Great Location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Recently visited Paris for the six nations and this hotel was booked by the party leader. On arrival, the receptionist who spoke very good English was very helpful and explained everything we needed to know clearly.
There was some work being done in the hotel which meant the carpets in the corridors were taken up. The room itself was clean and very spacious. there was only 2 of us sharing this room but enough room for 4 people in different beds with 2 doubles, a single and a pull out camp bed. The beds were comfortable and shower in the morning was excellent.
Wi-fi was free but you had to ask for it.
The hotel was in a fantastic location. Around the corner from the Louvre and a short walk from Place de la Concorde.
At £100 for 2 nights in a central Paris location that it occupies, if represents value for money. It served its purpose and apart from the carpet issue due to the renovation, I couldnt find fault with it although I'm not sure I'd stay here again.

Terrific location for visiting Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Pompidou centre, Notre Dame etc. All very easy to walk to. Friendly and efficient reception and cleaning staff.
Room 20 was nice and big for the 3 of us with a bath and shower available in the huge but basic bathroom.
Wi fi is free but you have to ask reception for a separate code for each laptop/mobile phone you need to connect.

Problems were that the hotel was being refurbished (we weren't informed when we booked and didn't get any reduction) and so it was like living in a building site with plasterers, electricians and painters everywhere and the stairs covered in plastic sheeting. Not very nice at all. The lift was out of order so we had 77 stairs to the room up and down 6 times a day including with heavy suitcases. Again no reduction in price offered.

The 10euro breakfast was good on Day 1 - camembert, babybel, gouda etc with our bread roll and crossant but this disappeared on Day 2 - very disappointing for my hungry teenage sons - perhaps they ate too much on Day1??. The breakfast and the hotel at the time we stayed there were definitley not good value.

But if you want to be right in the centre and can manage without big soft towels, a kettle in your room, non-French TV and a UK breakfast then this 2-star hotel may be a good bet when the building works are finished. I suggest you check first......

The staff was friendly and helpful when arrival. Room was big enough for the group of four people, good light and big bathroom too.
Hotel very closed to the Louvre museum and les champs élysées which make it easy to get into the museum in the morning to avoid long queues.
Good cafes and underground also nearby.
Would recomend it to a friend or family.

I first stayed at the Montpensier over 25 years ago...loved it. Shabby but very Parisienne - fantastic position next to Comedie Francaise and the Palais Royale, two minutes from the Louvre and full of character. I would return with different family members and friends over the years, always sure that the charm would work its magic...until this last visit last weekend. I went with my daughter, visiting from Canada, for a Christmas/New Year treat. Do some galleries, some eating, some shopping, some walking. Booked online - €130 for a double with bath - reasonable I thought for a central Paris hotel. Imagine my disappointment when we arrived to discover building/redecoration works going on, new doorframes and doors stacked on the stairways, dirty carpet in the hallway to our room, woodwork missing and dirty cracked paintwork revealed. Our room was large but very bleak, very basic and shabby. The bathroom had cracked tiles on the floor, pipes protruding from grubby skirting, utilitarian soap dispenser with what smelt like disinfenctant for soap, two tiny towels and a feeble shower. could hear people the hallway coming and going. Could hear toilet flushing and shower running in rooms next door. So depressing. Felt like Russia in 1960 not Paris in 2013. I will never return.

Room Tip: can't imagine.

The hotel is well located: very close to Luvre and not far from opera. Our room (for three persons) was newly renovated, about 18 square meters (i think) and was cleaned every day. This is obviousely a budget hotel and one shall not expect much. If you think you get fair price then go for it, but do not overpay.

We found the Hotel Montpensier to be clean, but shabby. You can't beat the location. It's steps away from the Louvre and Metro. It's within walking distance of other sights, too.
The first clerk we encountered was an angry man, however, we never had any problem after that.
Ask not to go above the second or third floor, becAuse the elevator is too small for regular suitcases.
The bathroom looked like it had been redone and was very nice, in our room. The breakfast was good, for an additional €10.00 per person.
I'm not sure if there aren't nicer properties for the money. We paid €150.00 for twin beds.

Room Tip: Stay on a low floor.
