“Perfect location...great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Location Location Location. Location is everything and this hotel has it. Under 200 yard walk St. Michel station (RER B and C and multiple metro lines). You can walk to the Seine and be looking at Notre Dame in about 3 minutes. Restaurants everywhere. Even found a cigar friendly bar 3 minutes away with a view of Notre Dame. Had dinner at a great restaurant, Le Reminet, which was about under 10 minutes away. Superior double room with balcony (they upgraded us to the balcony room). Get a room with a balcony. Our balcony overlooked the front of the hotel and all the goings on below. With the balcony door closed you hear zero street noise. The room is small but I've stayed in smaller in Europe and it was fine for 3 nights. Pierre checked us in and was very friendly. We chatted for awhile. That said, everyone at the hotel is very friendly. Free wifi (slow at times but mostly fine), breakfast was good and worth the 12 Euros but there are also places around the corner to get coffee and pastries. Don't miss this hotel...it is GREAT!!

Room Tip: Get a balcony

So right off the bat - it is a not a "cookie cutter" hotel. All the rooms are different, some are quite reasonable in size (think moderate size USA hotel room) some are tiny, Some face the four cornered action street, some face a back courtyard. Some have balconies. You need to decide what is important to you and choose accordingly. The staff are very helpful both by phone and e-mail (use Google translate if you have to) and they won't steer you wrong. We stayed in a lower level second floor balcony room lliterally perched above the Latin Quarter nightlife (room 203). We loved it. Toured Paris from 8AM to 6PM then brought home a bottle of wine and bauquettes and ate on our balcony watching everything from guitar concerts to goldfish juggling. You should be aware that being in the heart of the action means being in the heart of the noise! We were willing to deal with the trade off and plan on catching up on our sleep here at home, but if you get a lower level street balcony you will be hearing party people til 4, then streetcleaners starting at 5. Honestly it was worth it to us it was so wonderful (and actually pretty budget friendly) to eat our suppers on the balcony. We even danced out there one night! Hotel staff is super, will give all kinds of advice with a smile. They talked us into taking an airport shuttle home because the RER was on some kind of slow down and boy are we glad we did it - had three hours to get our plane and would have never made it on RER. We had a little trouble finding the Hotel Europe Saint Severin after hours of travel - so here is a hint: When you get out of whatever exit of Metro or RER you use, go to the St. Michel Fountain (can't miss it). Facing the fountain, the Rue St. Severin is the first street to the left after the fountain. About half a block down. If I get some time later I will post room pics. Very comfy; nice bed, hardwood floors, honor bar fridge (we just moved their stuff around to put our stuff in), big bathroom with soaking tub and of course that balcony (sigh). Breakfast is 12 Euros, but we ate there a couple times when we wanted to eat and then return to room to plot out the day. Food ranged from granola with milk, lovely fresh bread and cheese and fruite salad. They also will do omlets and scrambled eggs on weekdays. Coffee and tea.. If you just need to chiil and eat in hotel it is a fine breakfast, There are also a dozen cafes in a block if you are more a coffee and roll person and don't want to spend 12 Euros.

From the initial email exchanges with the wonderful Pierre (Concierge Extraordinaire) regarding our stay, I knew The Hotel Europe Saint Severin would be something special. And it was!! Pierre's generous welcome was like that from an old friend.

He'd arranged everything we'd asked for and our cute little room (503) had a gorgeous little wrap around balcony overlooking the magical 4 way cobble stone alley ways - housing the most incredible array of shops, cafe's and bistros. This vibrant little section of the Latin Quarter, literally teams with the most eclectic collection of locals and tourists with an infectious joy throughout the day and night!

We only had 3 nights here, but felt that we belonged in the local fabric, befriending the wonderful Gregory - our waiter at the sweet little bistro opposite the hotel. At the end of our fabulous 10 - 12 hour days exploring this glorious city, Gregory would see us coming, fix our favourite corner 'people watching' table and had our drinks of choice on the table before we'd even sat down. A perfect relaxing end to pretty exhausting days - here, there were countless buskers and a flurry of international colour right before your eyes on an hourly basis! He introduced us to Gazeme - the local baguette delivery man - who supplied every local bistro daily at 11, 1 and 5 with a multitude of fresh bread and a dear little wizened old man who would sell his home grown herbs to all the eateries. This entire area is more Parisian than most novels depict!

Pierre and all the staff at Hotel Europe couldn't have done more for us...from generously understanding and responding to my school girl French, to arranging ice buckets and pots of tea from the adjoining restaurant for our romantic late night suppers. Nothing was too much trouble and his hospitality made us feel like we were 'coming home' every time we wandered back in to the cosy, simple, stylish foyer. Thank you Pierre and staff, you were brilliant!
Yes the rooms are simple and on the small side...but ours was clean, cute and a perfect base for our Paris experience. We loved sitting on our little balcony and watching life unfold down below...the words Paris Perfection spring to mind.

As for the location... 1 minutes walk saw Notre Dame spring to life right in front of the very efficient St. Michele metro station. From here, either begin your journey on foot across the romantic bridges leading to Hotel de'Ville or catch the ever present metro to any location of your choosing. In any one day you can drink in the magic of The Eifell Tower, the Louvre, Arc de Triumph, Champes Elysees and much much more! Even our train to Chateau de Versailles took only 30 minutes from St. Michele. There is nothing more you could possibly want than this unique, beautiful, charming old hotel (with modern touches) located in this dream location! Oh to return..... Merci Pierre and to your wonderful staff! Warmest regards, Lisa v

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors are larger with better balconies. 503 was fabulous!

This hotel has a fantastic location on a pedestrian street, across the river from Notre Dame. There are a few different types of rooms available, and some early booking discounts. The place is comfortable, with nice appointments to the rooms. Breakfast is options, and looks very good. The location makes this a worthwhile spot, being within walking distance of many different neighborhoods, as well as convenient for the metro and RER. Don't forget to say hello to Isis the resident cat.

This was our first stay at the St. Severin. Traveling with a teenager, we were looking for somewhat less expensive accomodations, in a central location. The St. Severin is generally rated 3-star, and priced about 30 Euro/night below comparable hotels. The location, 1 block from St. Michel MERTO and RER, and on the cusp of the Latin Quarter and St. Germain is very convenient. It is an easy and economical trip directly from CDG airport on the RER. (Ride in the last car and exit on the Notre Dame side of St. Michel Station if you have much luggage and prefer an escalator to dragging it up a flight of stairs.) The staff was very helpful, the room well maintained, and average size for Paris. If you are a light sleeper, request an interior room to avoid the substantial 4 a.m. street noise of trash collection and street cleaning.

Perfect location, lovely old building, but it's the staff that make it really special. Friendly, professional, multi-lingual and patient enough to allow you to try out your imperfect French on them - difficult to believe that they were Parisienne!

Perfect for a short stay, but facilities are limited and whilst the street itself is traffic free you must expect some noise into the early hours from revellers. What you won't be expecting is the bin men emptying the bins at 6am every morning, then just as you are going back to sleep, the mechanical street cleaning machine goes past. But please dont let that put you off, you won't find a nicer hotel in St Michel!

The Hotel St. Severin is located in Rue Saint-Severin, just a block off the river Seine near Blvd. St. Michel. It is a clean and comfortable place. The room is a wee bit tight, but that is common for this central location, and it cost only 99euros per night in the Christmas season. We had a small balcony for viewing the street. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Restaurants/cafes are everywhere in the neighborhood, and it's a short walk to Notre Dame and Louvre and to the RER station which connects to the airport.
