“Good base for tourists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Stayed 3 nights here in early October. Our room, 612, was a deluxe double, reasonably spacious, very quiet and it had a proper shower in the bathroom. The building is quite old but the room and bathroom had been nicely updated, especially the bathroom being quite modern and stylish.

The people at the reception were friendly and helpful, and they warned us about unexpected works on the RER B line to CDG airport (we needed to take the train to Mitry-Claye, where there were special buses to the airport) so we knew to allow extra time.

The location is both good and bad - really convenient for RER B, and there are many sights within a walking distance (we did not need to use the Metro at all). However the immediate surroundings are super-touristy (especially Rue de la Huchette) and the restaurants looked like "tourist-traps". Having said that, some of them seem to have good reviews so perhaps they simply know what their clientele wants.

Room Tip: If you need a quiet room, ask one facing the inner courtyard (not the street). E.g. 612 deluxe doubl...

One of the best addresses in Paris. Close to notre dame and seine. Right in the heart of the action. Food choices galore. Close to metro and batobus. Reception very helpful recommending off the track sites.

My wife and I had a flying one night trip to Paris. We picked this hotel because of its central location. It proved to be the perfect choice. The hotel room was spacious by Parisian standards, nice decor and very clean. We had a lovely balcony too which we used for pre dinner drinks whilst watching the sunset. Good value as well.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor - no street noise due to the excellent sound insulation.

I had a room booked here for two nights in August 2012. Due to a hurricane I was delayed one day. I called the hotel and told them the situation and asked if I could push my reservation for one day and keep the room for 2 nights. I was assured that it would be no problem. When I showed up to the hotel I was told that there was no room for me AT ALL even though my original reservation had a room for that night. They had no solution for me and STILL CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD. Disgraceful. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone due to the poor service.

Room Tip: choose a room at a different hotel

Dear Guinevere B,

Thank you for taking your time to write this review so that we can have a chance to explain.

As you understand we take this matter very seriously and all the staff has been questioned to find out what happend. It appears that on your arrival day we had serveral rooms available and none of the staff can recall meeting you, maybe you went to another Hotel Saint Séverin.
In fact we sometimes get mixed up with one of our neighbours which could explain the confusion.

Hopefully you will give us a second chance on your next trip to Paris so that we can show how important good service is for us.

Until then we wish you all the best.

Best regards,
Anna Israelsson

I had stayed in St Germain on my previous stay in Paris but that hotel was full, so after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor booked this one. I much prefer the bustle and convenience of being right in the middle of Paris, and the noise didn't bother me. There's a bar across the street for aperitifs, nightcaps etc., but it closes about 1am. Some of my friends in other rooms had the window open at night and were woken by noise on Sat night - but what do you expect? The room was small-ish but the bed was very comfortable with lovely cotton sheets. The fridge didn't seem to get very cold, but it didn't really affect us. We did have a bath as well as a shower, although the other rooms in our party did not so I would recommend you ask for one if you want one. The shower was very good, with plenty of power and hot water. To be honest, we were so busy that we didn't spend much time in our rooms, but they were very clean and we all slept very well.
Most of the staff were lovely. The gentleman on reception in the evenings was very helpful and friendly and organised our transport back to the hotel. The female receptionist on during the day (last Sunday Sept 30th) was also lovely. And yes, the cat was lovely, too!
I think this hotel is perfect if you want to be right in the heart of the Left Bank, without the expense of St Germain. If you're a light sleeper, keep the window closed and turn the a/c up!
If you stay here, I would recommend the following restaurants nearby - Le Petit Chatelet and Le Reminet.
I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a bath if you want one. The rooms on the front are lovely for feeling the atmosphere of Pari...

In the heart of the Latin Quarter this is a solid, no-frills, hotel. The rooms are of average size for Europe and are clean. The staff is friendly and are great with recommendations. If you are in the front of the hotel and are a light sleeper, you will contend with some of the nightlife. It is very close to Notre Dame and Shakespeare & Company. Would for sure stay again.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Overall, I would have to say this was a good hotel. (I'd put it in the low end of a 3 star). The location was great (stones through from Notre Dame) with restaurants abound. However, the restaurant/bar scene also meant that there was street noise well into the early hours on the weekend.

We stayed in room 602 which is on the 6th floor and only accessible by stairs. Slightly inconvenient but not a deal breaker (had to take elevator to the 5th floor and then walk to the 6th).

The room itself was quaint.. nice wood beaming and quirky slant roof. The space was a decent size for europe and the bathroom quite large. The only issue with the bathroom was that it was impossible not to get water all over the floor when taking a shower (no curtain and the shape of the bathtub made the run off pool and go straight to the floor). Also the products kind of sucked..I'd bring your own if you can.

Staff were generally pleasant but didn't really interact with them much. They have free wifi but you have to re-register every 4 hours. Speed is decent (i was able to stream shows rather than watch the junk on tv).

Room Tip: I would steer clear of rooms 601-603 if possible.

Dear Flipper202,

Thanks a lot to take time to share your experience with us, at the hotel Europe Saint Séverin.

We take good note of your remarks about your comfort in the room 602, a double deluxe room

The hotel bulding is more 150 years old some part couldn't change. For example, two Suites and the room 602 don't have an elevator acces for this, we do apologize for the inconvenient. Of course at your arrival the team would be enjoy to show you another room for a better comfort.

Maybe will we have the chance to welcome you back in our hotel?
Of course we will be very happy to propose you different rooms and maybe different hygiens products.

Best regards
Leïla
