I stayed in a single room at the Hotel le Pavillon from Oct. 11th to Oct 19th.

First off, I'd like to say to that I had read most of the negative reviews before I booked a room at this hotel and was discouraged by the most recent reviews posted just before my trip. My expectations were low and in a sense this was good, as I knew I wouldn't be too disappointed or mislead when I arrived there.

The hotel itself is located in a quaint neighbourhood amongst many boutique-like shops, cafes, patisseries, restaurants, brasseries, tabacs, grocery stores, etc. There's even a Starbucks down the street towards the Eiffel Tower. Make sure you check out Rue Cler (really close to hotel - look for it on the map). It's a small street with stores that sell cheese, meat, prepared Italian food, bread, and so much more. If you need to buy cheap bottled water, snacks, wine, or a phone card, go to the convenience store on Rue Malar which is a short walk from the hotel towards the Seine.

Now, the hotel itself: It's sorely dated and needs some renovations for sure. The lobby is inviting (people complained it was too small for their liking but it didn't bother me) but once you head upstairs to your room, it gets dark. There's a light switch in the hall - use it and don't complain about the darkness. No elevators, hallways are narrow, and carpet is worn-out.

My single room was the perfect size. Yes it was small, but I wasn't going to do anything except sleep in my room. The double bed was sunken in the middle and the covers looked old. There was a desk, chair, phone, two windows (one in the room and bathroom) and a flat screen tv. The room wasn't the most spectacular in the world, but it was clean and functional. Washroom was a good enough size, towels were replaced every single day, toilet was odd but it did the job. If you need a hair dryer, ask the receptionist to use theirs - they only have two for the entire hotel but I didn't have a problem getting one. I usually asked for it at night when I returned to the hotel and kept it until the following morning.

They offer breakfast in the lobby but at a steep cost. Don't bother with it. More worthwhile and rewarding to get your morning coffee and croissant at a nearby cafe or patisserie.

Service at the hotel was excellent. Staff were friendly and more than willing to assist me when needed. Ask for a map of central Paris upon arrival - it will be invaluable to you during your entire stay. The hotel doesn't have internet service so try to do most of your homework before your trip. Otherwise, pick up useful pamphlets and brochures in the lobby.

Location was key!!!!! And I cannot stress this enough! If you're wondering why the hotel is expensive, keep in mind that you're paying for location and to me, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I walked everywhere: to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Musee Rodin, Opera Garnier, Latin Quarter, etc. If you love walking and are in fairly good shape, you can pretty much walk anywhere from this hotel. I took the RER only when I went to Palace de Versailles (buy a le Passport ticket from Invalides RER station for about 20 euros - covers round-trip RER train service and admission to all of Versailles - save your Museum Pass for later, as a trip to Versailles can last an entire day) and to and from the Charles de Gaulle airport.

I travelled to Paris alone and was satisfied with Hotel le Pavillon. If you're travelling with a significant other or spouse, I highly suggest you stay elsewhere, as the hotel is definitely not on the romantic side at all, but try to find someplace in that area. Trust me, the location is ideal.

I have so much more to say and tips to offer, so if anyone is interested, please ask!

Sorry for the long review! I had so much to say....I loved Paree!
