Originally came and checked in at this hotel in February 2003 for 5 nights. The hotel is below average. The staff are helpful, but - friendly - rude - angry in sort of way, this is due to the US invasion of Iraq war. The Male staff like to talk politics ALOT to a point of taking it to a race thing, I get tend to pulled of my way just to talked to them about it, which is very disturbing and annoying.

The location is perfect for public transportation. But the hotel is not good for Americans.

If you're a budget traveller, GO SOME PLACE ELSE. There are ALOT of budget hotel in paris. I guessed its true that American and Parisian have a love and hate relationship.

We entered Paris from London via the Eurostar in early May 2005 and this little hotel is very convenient from the Gare du Nord, right across the street. It is in a very old building, so don't know why it's called the New Hotel, but it's in very good condition. The desk staff was always very helpful and friendly and they spoke excellent English. As Paris hotels go, this is an inexpensive one, so we opted to get one of the best rooms and it was worth it (99 euros per night). It had a small elevator which was wonderful to carry up the luggage. The room was comfortably large with 2 twin beds, big bathtub with handheld shower, desk, chair, television (with 2 English stations), large closet, plus French doors and a little balcony. It also had air conditioning which all the rooms do not and we used it a few times at night. That would definitely be necessary later in the summer when it's hot. The breakfast room is very nice, probably in the old wine cellar. Breakfast cost an additional 5 euros per day per person, so we didn't always eat there, though that is the same price or cheaper as breakfast in a cafe. It was the usual croissant (so buttery, fresh and flaky), hard roll, juice and coffee. It was convenient that they had a computer for the use of guests for a nominal fee, so we didn't have to find an Internet cafe. The only drawback was some traffic noise, but we used earplugs. We stayed 4 nights and would definitely stay there again.
