We started and ended our recent 8 day visit to Paris at La Mere Michele. We ate lunch there on the Tuesday when we arrived and we had dinner there on our final evening in Paris. The food was all delicious, and the very small, intimate nature of the place made it very special. This is a tiny restaurant, with two tables for two outside, and seating for perhaps 14-16 inside. The kitchen is open to view along one side. It is a one-person kitchen operation so you can view all of the preparations.
The first day we arrived, they were having work done on their a/c chiller, so part of the seating was not available and some things were out of place. They were working hard to have it all restored before the dinner hour.
For our lunch, I had the salmon with bacon and basmati rice, and my husband had the Iberian pork. The salmon was delicious and it was done just right; the rice was wonderful. The pork was good and very tender; however, it was served medium and was a bit less well done than we are accustomed to here in the US. They offer wine by the glass, which was just right with lunch.
When we returned for dinner, my husband ordered the salmon and I had the steak surprise, with tiny roasted potatoes. The steak was outstanding, was perfectly done to order, and the potatoes were very tasty.
Great appetizers included the melon (cantaloupe) soup, the seafood verrine (similar to ceviche), and the croustillant (served with a salad).
This place was near where we were staying, but I would travel a distance for such wonderful food and the friendly, family atmosphere.
