I had a terrible experience here. To begin, we were treated with rudeness and ignored when we first checked in. When we were finally given our room, it wasn't ready. The room was cleaned in under 10 minutes, which is quite concerning -- it should take much longer to give a hotel room a thorough clean after previous guests have left. Our room was basic with very uncomfortable beds and was incredibly hot -- it looked absolutely NOTHING like the rooms pictured. Since the location is fairly good, we shrugged it all off as we were only there for one night, and did our best to stay out of the hotel. When my friend came back for a nap in the afternoon, she couldn't rest because there was loud screaming from outside. She thought perhaps it was just a crazy person standing outside...but later that night when we returned to our hotel to sleep, we were kept up until all hours of the morning from the same screaming -- it turns out it was the hotel concierge screaming on the phone loudly for hours! Our hotel room faced into the lobby, so even with our window closed, we could still hear. This was disgraceful and unacceptable.

To make matters worse, I woke up 2 mornings later with 15+ BUG BITES all over my legs! They were characteristic bed bug bites that showed up 48 hours after my stay at this hotel. They took ages to heal. What a way to start my month-long Europe trip - EW!! Furthermore, this was one of the more pricy places we stayed. We stayed at cheap hostels that were cleaner and nicer than this hotel.

2 of my friends stayed there later in the month and had the same horrendous experience - more YELLING at all hours of the night by the crazy concierge! They tried to confront him the next day to see if he could keep it down that night, and they were met with rudeness and no apologies. Their room was also basic and looked nothing like the room in the hotel photos.

Also, beware that there is no elevators, only crooked windy staircases, and no one to help you carry your bags. DO NOT STAY HERE -- or you will be sorry!

Stayed here for a few days visit to Paris. We had the top floor (5th floor with no lift) which had great views of the local area. The room was hot and didn't cool down (but it was very hot outside). Basic amenities but everything you need for a short sight-seeing trip.
Would recommend the place as a cheap, comfortable place to stay.

The title explains it all. We stayed at this hotel for one night in early July. We were woken up twice in the middle of the night by a screaming concierge on the phone. Stayed here again at the end of the month for two nights. The reservation had been previously booked in June, and we decided to give it another shot. Upon arrival, we asked if anyone could help with our bags, as we were two small females with heavy suitcases heading up to the 3rd floor. The concierge replied with a simple "no, sorry". Throughout our travels, assistance was always provided without being asked. Meanwhile, late in the night, we were once again awoken by a loud screaming concierge. First thing in the morning, we went to the front desk and politely brought up the issue. Three gentlemen that worked there all told us it wasn't their problem, and the individual who was the cause of the yelling said that we should have called the front desk in the middle of the night when the screaming occurred. Under what circumstances is it ever the responsibility of the guest to inform the concierge that he is being disrespectful and causing a disturbance? It's one thing to ask this of us if the noise was occurring on our floor, of which they were not aware. However, the concierge was the CAUSE of the disturbance. Their complete lack of understanding and willingness to take responsibility was extremely unprofessional. Lastly, and certainly not least: bed bugs during both stays (early, followed by late July). I created this account specifically to warn future potential guests. Save yourselves the money and frustration. I slept in 9 different hotels in 9 cities, and to say this was the worst would be a gross understatement.

The location of the Hotel de la Herse d'Or is ideal, walking distance to various attractions and near a small relaxing park (the street behind the hotel). We stayed for 7 nights in a very tiny room with a tiny bathroom. The entire hotel-- including the room smelled like a dust and mold. After a long day of walking in the streets, it is a little difficult to come back to a room that is so uncomfortable. The front desk staff were lukewarm towards us and WiFi is not strong enough or consistent for the upper floors.

I went to Paris recently for a solo trip and stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in the single superior bedrooms with a private bathroom. The location is great as it is a 10 minute walk from Le Marais and approx 20 minute walk from Rue Rivoli which are both very trendy places for shopping away from the mainstream Champs Elysees. Place des Vosges is only 5 minutes away from the hotel which is also another way to get to Le Marais. For those who prefer the Left Bank of Paris, this hotel situated on Rue St. Antoine, is a 20 minute walk to the Notre Dame which will then lead you to the Left Bank.

The M1 line goes straight to Bastille or St. Paul metro station which is convenient if you are travelling via Gare du Nord.

Cons:
This hotel has no elevators (which was not a problem for me personally since I didn't have heavy luggage) and the wifi is not the greatest speed, but thankfully Parisian parks have free wifi access.

All in all, it is a hotel that is worth staying at if you are looking for a good location and are planning to spend most of your days discovering Paris and being outdoors.

Room Tip: Budget hotels tend to exaggerate wifi availability!

We were in Paris for a 1 night layover on 14 June 2014 and decided to stay at a simple hotel near to major attractions. The hotel is near the Bastille metro, and walking distance to Notre Dame. There are many shops and restaurants near the hotel. When booking the hotel, there were no information regarding no elevators. Our room was on the 4th floor and our bags were really heavy. Suffice to say it wasn't a pleasant experience lugging the bags up and down. We interacted with 2 receptionists. Amir (morning) and George (evening). While Amir was rather friendly, George was quite annoying and at times rude. We got the 3 single-room (converted from a single + double-bed room). It was small but has a nice toilet. It was quite warm in Paris and the room had no air-conditioning (again, not mentioned during the booking). Well, we did made the booking in a rush and couldn't do a thorough research. While the hotel was OK given it's 2 star rating, the rude receptionist really gave it a bad impression to me and my friends.

Room Tip: Request for a lower floor (first or second) as this building has no elevators
