“Cannot ask for more!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

My Malaysian family and I stayed at this hotel at the end of June 2012. We booked one triple room and one double room for 4 nights. Having the knowledge that it is a 1 star hotel, we were not expecting much. We booked and paid internet prices for our rooms. Although it is a little more to pay for a one star hotel, we know that we have done the right thing because of its brilliant location. First, let me tell you about the rooms. Both rooms are good sized rooms with attached bathrooms. We have stayed at other Parisians hotel before and know that there are even smaller 3 star rooms. So we are quite happy with Hotel De La Herse room sizes. The bathrooms are tiny. As long as you know that you are staying in a 1 star hotel, you make do. The beds are clean (no bed bugs as claimed by some other reviews). The person at the front desk whose name is Syed Amir should be praised because of his dedication and professionalism, not to mention his ever helpful attitude. There is however, a strict faced elderly male staff who should loosen up a bit! Staff make up for a good part of a hotel. The Bastille Metro is just a short walk from the hotel. You can basically get everything you need from the hotel surroundings. Good cafes ,french and Chinese restaurants, plenty of shops, a tabac just 2 doors from the hotel where you can buy water and basics, etc. For my mum who is elderly, after a hard day of walking in Paris, going back to the hotel with Metro seems quite reasonable and the distance between hotel and Metro is a big blessing. I would certainly reccomend this hotel to family with small children and the elderly.

“DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Bed bugs, horrible customer service, filthy hotel in general. After seeing the bed bugs, we had to move. They said they would refund our money but when we got home we saw they had charge us... Don't stay here!!! There are plenty of other options very close by that are in the same price range.

“Don't pay for a glass of lemonade...........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

.....and then grumble when you don't get champagne. The point I am trying to make is that this hotel is not five star with air conditioning, lifts and room service. HOWEVER, what it lacks in these three points that people grumble about, it makes up for itself in other ways. I have just returned from spending five nights at this fantastic hotel. I stayed in room 15 (third floor) - it was spotlessly clean with snow white sheets, clean wooden floors, a tv (french channels only) a little table, wardrobe, wash basin with a light over it and a hair dryer. The french windows opened onto the most cute little balcony ever, I felt like Amelie !!! Coupled with that, my bed was made every day and fresh clean towels provided as well. I was upset that I could not leave a few euros for the person cleaning my room at the end of my stay but I was running low on funds. The wc was on the same floor but the shower was on the second floor. At no time did I ever have to wait to use them. The thing is here is that you make your money on location alone. It is a stones throw from Bastille metro station or a slightly longer walk from St Pauls station. Location ! Location ! Location ! It is two streets away from Place des Vosges where I spent many warm afternoons and evenings, people watching and picnicking. Rue des Rosiers is a short walk away where you can get the most delightful felafels or crepes for pennies (great if you are on a budget). Lots and lots of cocktail and wine bars. There are supermarkets, fromageries, greengrocers, charcutieries, traiteurs galore. If you are on a budget, this area is king. Walk down any side street on the left side of Rue St Antoine and this takes you over a number of any bridges leading to Notre Dame, Latin Quarter etc etc. Just check it out on the map, you needn't use the metro when you see how close you are to everything. As well as this, there are many good affordable resturants so close by. How lovely after a day of sightseeing to return to your area and eat and drink in peace without worrying about getting home. The staff also made this stay truly memorable. All of them were friendly and polite and had no problem looking after my luggage until my evening train. I am a middle aged London woman who has been visiting Paris since I was a very young girl and I can honestly say that this hotel was one of my best stays. I hope to return again very soon.

“Don't stay here!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for four Nights thinking it sounded ok for a budget hotel. When we arrived and lugged our suitcase up 5 flights of steep winding stairs, no elevators, we were super disappointed to see the room that looked dirty and uncomfortable. There were bed bugs under the mattress. For those of you that don't know bed bugs can attach to your luggage and clothes and cause a big problem. they are really hardto get rid of. Look for other options in the area that are rated with stars. This one is not-no stars. We stayed at a great two star that was cheaper, 96€ a night, and was clean and comfortable, called hotel Jeanne d'arc on rue turenne. Great value for the price. There are tons of options so don't settleforthis gross hotel it will ruin your stay! Look on side streets not rue st. Antoine or rue rivoli, places are much nicer.
