We spent our honeymoon at this hotel in Oct 2003. The room was small, but that's the standard for this price in Europe. The shower was tiny and the water pressure wasn't great, but I also found that to be common in European hotels for this price.
Yes, there are stairs and no elevator but that added to the charm for us. We are young and able bodied so this posed no problem. Our room faced a quiet Parisian street away from noise and traffic. We were very close walking distance to some great local restaurants, not frequented by tourists. We were also very close to a metro station, I believe it was Bastille. Another thing this hotel had which was very useful was internet access in the common area by the breakfast room in the basement.
Breakfast was delicious and carb-full, with fresh baked bread, croissant, and pain au chocolat. They must buy them from a local bakery. Orange juice, cheese, yogurt, and fresh coffee came with it, too. It was served to your table, not buffet style.
Before we checked out, there was a bit of a disappointment. We were on our honeymoon. The concierge who checked us out said "Oh, Friday (4 days prior) a woman from the States called to congratulate you and asked for champagne sent to your room. I wrote down the name and credit card on a piece of paper that I lost. I'm sorry. Be assured we did not charge the credit card."
Needless to say, when we returned home, we asked around and to this day do not know who the well-wisher was. The service and experience as a whole had been spot on until that moment, and it was an unfortunate way to end the honeymoon! Would we stay here again? Probably yes despite the forgetful concierge..
