“Great location but small rooms and kind of soulless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

This is an excellent location, walking distance to many attractions and with many cafes and shops nearby. It is a great price for Paris and this neighborhood, but be aware that the rooms are tiny and the shower is very small, about 2.5 ft x 2.5 ft. Note that I am quite a petite person (about the size of a 13 year old child) but I still found it hard to maneuver around the room with our luggage, etc. The door of the bathroom opened a little more than halfway before it hit the bed.
The AC didn't really work- it blew some air but didn't cool-- we had to keep the window open at night because the room was quite hot, and with all the traffic noise from the street I had to sleep with earplugs.
Wireless worked well the whole 3 days stay.
The staff didn't offer to help with our luggage when we arrived and wasn't particularly friendly.

They answered questions if asked but overall it felt like we were annoying them rather than giving them business by being there. One exception was the fellow who helped at breakfast one morning who was just very nice and friendly. The breakfast buffet for 12 euro is not bad if you are in a hurry, but otherwise there are many cafes, bakeries, etc just steps outside that are much better.

The hotel has a bar that looks nice but we stayed for 3 nights and I never saw anyone there-- it was always empty. Definitely did not feel a sense of welcome or community here. Fine as a launching pad for seeing Paris, but don't expect much else from this place.

First and foremost, the rooms are smmmmallll. Bathrooms are smaller. BUT, if budget is driving your hotel choices this is a great option. Staff is very friendly and the rooms are very clean and comfortable if you can live small. Great location as well. Short walk to the Pantheon, just off the 7 and 10 metro lines tons of markets and restaurants near by.

My girlfriend and I arrived at Hotel Acte V for a one night stay around 10 pm. The person at the front desk gave us one of three remaining sets of keys and our passwords for free wi-fi. As we started to walk to the lift, he informed us that it was currently out of order, so we had to walk up three flights of stairs with our luggage - of course, I realize this is probably just bad timing, as I assume the lift is not always out of order. By the time we got to our room, we were both sweating and to our surprise the room was very hot. After fiddling with the remote for the Air Conditioner for five minutes, we finally called downstairs to find out how to turn the Air Conditioner on, only to find out that it was broken and no rooms with working units were available.

At this point we're both drenched in sweat, so we opened the windows and realize we're directly over the somewhat busy street of Rue Monge. However, we have no choice but to sleep with the windows open. Even with ear plugs, we heard cars & motorcycles driving by every 5-10 minutes, and honking a few times every hour from nearby intersections.

As you can imagine, at this point we're severely disappointed and decide to go online - perhaps we had misread the reviews for this hotel and had picked the wrong one. Alas, the WiFi only worked from one corner of the room right next to the door, so we both huddled on the only chair in the room next to the door as we re-checked the hotel reviews (among other things online). Overall, we were shocked to see so many positive reviews for Hotel Acte V, as it was a horrible experience altogether for us altogether. Our experience could very well have been an anomaly, but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

The only reason I give the hotel 2/5 is because there was free wi-fi, the room was reasonably sized, and the decor was nice.

I stayed in Paris for 6 days, and I stayed at Hotel Acte V for 3 nights.
The quality of hotel in general was pretty average, but I liked the friendly behavior of staffs.
They always welcomed me with smile, and they answered everything I asked with joyful voices.
I got a recommendation on restaurant from a staff, and the restaurant was great!
The hotel is located pretty near from the center of Paris (Notre-Dame, Louvre, ...). It takes about 2~3 stations of bus or metro to get anywhere you want to see.

the 5th arrondissement is very attractive and this hotel is very well located, right next to 'Arènes de Lutèce". Clean and calm bedrooms. breakfast can be included but we preferred to buy the croissants and pain au chocolate next door (at the corner) in a real french bakery

Room Tip: ask a room at the backside facing the arena

Stayed here for two nights. Staff were friendly and helpful. Conveniently located less than 5 mins from the metro (place monge), elevator is small but thats normal in paris. Carrefour just opposite the hotel is a big plus. Overall lovely hotel.

Room Tip: request street view!

The Emptynesters stayed at the Acte V in late-March, 2014. We went to the hotel directly from CDG (RER-B train) and walked through the Sorbonne to get there (Mrs. Emptynesters had me walking about 20km/day in Paris!) The staff was welcoming and patient as I used my high-school Francais, then helped us in perfect English. Since we got there at about 11:00AM, the room was not ready, but the staff kindly locked up our luggage while we traipsed abound Paris.

Arriving back around 4’ish we retrieved our luggage and took the (tiny but effective) ascenseur (elevator) up to the third floor where we had a street view room. The room was very decent size with an Ikea-style free standing closet that could easily hold all hangables and the snacks we bought from the Carrefour down the street. We had a double-bed and were a little worried about it being too small (we’re both 6’) but no problem. The room featured an easy chair, a desk chair and a (approx 20”) flat-screen TV (seul en Francais, pas CNN).

The only screwy part about the rooms seems to be the shower. The bath has a shower handle on a hose, excellent water pressure and temperature, but NO SHOWER CURTAIN. It’s a real challenge to shower with no curtain without completely drenching the bathroom (and all the rooms below you…) 1-star deduction (would be a ½ star, but that’s not a TripAdvisor option) because this could be cured with a plastic shower curtain on an expanding spring rod. Oh well.

The hotel was well maintained, the room cleanliness daily was outstanding, and the staff helpful and cordial. The hotel has a private bar just for guests and seems to attract an international clientele – I heard British English, Deutsch, and Arabic at least. The room does have A/C and steam heat. We enjoyed the A/C and fan!

The location is excellent. You’re about ½ block from a Metro station, 1 block from one of the best boulangeries (bakeries) in Paris (really - they have a contest), a very well stocked Carrefour is just down the street on the other side. Oh, and did I forget? Yes, you are really right next to an ancient Roman coliseum! It’s now a Paris park so you can go enjoy sitting and imagining watching gladiators fighting lions (with free Paris Park wifi!). Tres cool. Please note the official price of a delicious, fresh, French baugette is .90E! They practically give them away!

For you US folks, the Acte V rooms are about a Hampton Inn in terms of quality, but a little smaller room wise. Much better than a Super 8 and not quite a Marriott. Interestingly, the windows are some kind of super material as even though you’re on the street, there’s almost no noise when they’re closed. Open – it sounds like the streets of NYC! Tip – if you’re really noise sensitive, ask for a room not on the street. We enjoyed it the street side though.

We ended up at the Acte V courtesy of Hotwire (a pick a star-level and price and see what you get) and were very happy with the hotel. If you want the Cluny-Sorbonne area (5eme/6eme Arondissement), you can’t go wrong here. Merci Acte V.
