In busy and expensive Paris, with so many dining choices, this place is a little gem. After a stroll through les jardins du Luxembourg, tucked away behind in use des Fleurs, this restaurant serves a 2 course lunch for 19 euros, and the quality of the food and service outstrips the more pretentious and expensive brasseries. If dining alone, be sure to sit and eat at the bar and chat with Nikola, the charming and chatty owner/manager, who speaks fluent English with an American accent, but who will tolerate and kindly prompt even the lowliest french speaker such as myself. I ordered the chargrilled eggplant and peppers with creme frais, olive oil and balsamic for entre, followed by the slow cooked shoulder of lamb with polenta. Each dish was generous and beautifully cooked and presented. This would definitely be my local if I lived in this city.
