“It made our Paris stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We really appreciated this hotel for our first stay in Paris (after 20 years). After much research, we settled on Hotel D'Orsay as the one for us, with a degree of trepidation that we didn't experience the various negative comments from prior people (which seem to apply to all hotels).

We arrived early in the morning, and were pleasantly surprised to be told that they had a room ready for us; and even more surprised to find out that we had been upgraded.

Whilst the reception area was being renovated, it wasn't a problem; and in fact it was more than up for by the very pleasant and helpful front desk staff.

The room was a delight - sizeable; very clean; and most importantly very quiet.

And whilst we only had breakfast there on the last morning, it was great - in fact we regretted not eating there more often.

As for the site - it was perfect for exploring Paris. Two metro stations were very close by; although we walked everywhere, as the hotel is situated perfectly for walking to most of the highlights of central Paris.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location is one of the best spots to be in. You are a block away from the Musee d' Orsay, the River Seine. Right across the river is the Louvre & Tuileries Gardens. In the area of the hotel there are nice places to eat and shopping. The metro is right up the street.Just a few blocks away is Blvd St Germain the hotspot for shops and restaurant's and Patisseiie Grosselin 258 Boulevard Saint-Germain. This amazing pastry shop has some of the best flavored stuffed and sugar topped donuts, breads, desserts and much more! You are also so close to all the major sights in the 1st. The room was clean and the bathroom was nice and newly re-done. The hotel at this time under renovation and I am sure it will be nice when done. The breakfast buffet seemed nice and popular in the morning. I like to go out and buy some treats while the wife and kids are getting up since I am an early riser. This is a great hotel for great value. Clean and well located.

We loved the location - it is a block from the Seine and 3 minutes from the Musee D'Orsay. The room was nice, but nothing special. The bathroom was very clean and spacious, but the shower was difficult to use. I was not crazy about the linens - kind of scratchy - and it took me three visits to the front desk to get a top sheet for the bed. The staff was pleasant and efficient, but didn't seem to understand my questions or requests. We skipped the breakfast because 16 euros p/p seemed high.

I stayed at the Hotel D'Orsay while attending a conference at the Louvre. The hotel is right across the river from the Louvre and gardens and literally steps from the musee D'Orsay. I got a great deal online on the hotel site - especially considering it was high season. Booked a club room, as did another person from my company. I got a charming room on the top floor with a view of the Effiel tower - the only downside is you have to walk a short flight after taking a elevator. My colleague got the same room on the first floor and his room was smaller with no view - he commented it seemed like a cleaning closet that was converted to a room - but even then it was clean and comfortable. For the price I think the attic room was a great deal - but the other room might have felt too small - be aware when booking! the breakfast was great - hot and cold items and service was very good. I stayed the week before at the Hotel de la place to Louvre another Esprit Hotel the week before while on holiday - that hotel is ranked less stars (and was even less expensive) and it showed in services - but we did have a view of the Louvre. I think this hotel group might be a good value overall. If you're looking for a left bank hotel I would recommend the Hotel D'Orsay and go for a higher room class or request the charming attic room.

Room Tip: Ask for the charming club room on the top floor - or upgrade to a larger room

Our first trip to Paris.....or Europe, for that matter! This hotel was chosen by our travel agent who grew up in Europe and has spent lots of time in Paris. The location, for us, was awesome! We were one block from the Seine, one block from Musee D'Orsay (where the best impressionism is displayed, more than in Musee de Louvre), one block from L'Opentour (hop on - hop off bus tour of Paris, with 4 lines and more than 50 stops, a great way to learn the city and decide where you want to spend more time). We walked to the Eiffel Tower our first night in town, walked to Musee de Louvre and to Les Invalides (where Napolean's tomb is located). Metro is really close by and there are many restaurants in the neighborhood (Cafe Mucha, Le 20 BelleChasse, Les Antiquaires, and La Dauphine, all of which were good). The rooms were somewhat small, but very comfortable and the bathrooms were nice. A quiet place, and charming breakfast room with a nice buffet was included (great cafe au lait)! Very friendly staff at the desk and in the petite dejeuner room, helped me with my efforts at speaking French with a smile. We had two rooms for a family of 4, worked out great for us! Not sure if they have rooms good for more than 2 people. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel D'Orsay and would go back for sure. Only downside, they were renovating the lobby and other areas, but not a hindrance for us my any means.

I found price vs product to be very good for Paris. Yes, rooms are small but is to be expected in such location. Bigger rooms would mean either a hike in price or trade off on location.
Stayed in room 062, positives:
Pleasant staff - always a worry in Paris but not here.
Top floor room
Good quality linen, soft matterass
Bathroom is clean with nice fittings
2 aircons - one weak inbuild unit and a portable-hose-through-window type which we didnt have to use.
Great breakfast, although not advertised it had hot food section: scambled eggs, bacon, bangers; continental section was also good that varied day-to-day.
Location - superb, central yet a quiet street, Southbank of the river has been transformed recently - it is absolutely awesome to spend the evening with a bottle of wine watching sunset.

Negatives, not many:
Lift is old and doesn't reach the top floor - can be a problem if you are loaded with heavy bags.
The door closer on the secondary entrance door is set far too stiff, in addition a small step straight after the doorway can cause an accident - i almost fell over.
As the door key required to be inserted into key switch to enable power and lights, this can be confusing turning the power on if arrived at night in the dark. Maybe front desk can explain the system to the guests as it is not immediatly obvious.
Room fridge is old with fraying rubber seals, hardly cools anything.

Over all, would return to the hotel provided the rate is right.

Very central, just along the road from the Musee D'Orsay and one street behind the River Seine - perfect for a short trip to Paris. Although the hotel was having redecoration work being carried out it did not deter from this super friendly and lovely Hotel. The staff were all extremely nice, friendly, informative and a joy to deal with. Our room was a little on the small side but very well appointed, very clean and there were some lovely touches - bath robes, slippers, delicious cookies and nuts. the bed was turned down on the first night and little chocolates left. We opted not to have breakfast as this was quite expensive. I would definitely go back to the Hotel D'Orsay!!
