“Convenient location near Jardin du Luxembourg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

I have stayed at Le Clos Medicis at least 3 times. All of them were long stays of approximately 2 months and although I was on a business trip, I had the opportunity to explore Paris during the weekends. This hotel is conveniently located near many attractions, such as Jardin du Luxembourg, Notre Dame, St Michael, Quartier Latin, and it is also within walking distance from RER train and metro stations. There is a wide variety of restaurants in the vicinity and I've had great experiences walking by and discovering small restaurants hidden in that area. The staff was very friendly and due to my long stays they tried to do their best to accommodate my needs. During my first time there, I got a small room with a tiny one-door closet (typical Paris-style hotel room), but after explaining that I'd like to have a bigger room due to my two-month stay, they were able to give me a new room in the following day. In my next visits, they were so attentive and reserved the same room for me, since they knew I liked it. The breakfast is very good with fruits, juices, milk, at least three types of bread, croissant and cheese and it runs until 11am or noon in the weekends, which is something you do not see very often. One thing that I have to point it out is that they have just one elevator and it was kind of slow in the morning, so I used to get the stairs. It was not a big deal for me, but I think I had to mention this. I would definitely recommend Le Clos Medicis, no matter if you are a business or a leisure traveler. I can't wait to be back to Paris and certainly to Le Clos!

Stayed there one night (as a second stay) and really, did not feel as good as last time - maybe it is linked to the fact that I did not book directly with the hotel, but the room was noisy (bad window insulation), the curtains would not really close and a few other little things (like poor quality of pillows) that you do not expect in a boutique hotel of that price. Breakfast is very simple... I'm not sure I'll stay there again, to be honest.

Room Tip: try and get a room not facing the street, if you want to have a quiet night.

Dear Sir, Thank you for your review. We do regret your last stay was not as good as previous one. You can be sure there is no difference in welcome when booking thru an OTA but best rates are always on hotel website. In order to keep the rooms up to date we are refurbishing some rooms every year. Those on the street side are not yet (we will start next August). We wish to welcome you again and show you improvements. Best regards

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

We stayed here 7 years ago and returned this past March for my partner's birthday and enjoyed our stay both times. We returned to Paris numerous times and have most recently enjoyed the Hotel Emile, Hotel des Archives, Hotel L'Odeon, and Hotel Artus to name a few. Really, you really can't go wrong at any of the smaller hotels in a central location.

Hotel Le Clos Medicis is nicely located on a quiet street around the corner from Jardin Lexembourg. We soaked in the sun one afternoon in the park and it was relaxing and lovely. Down the street towards the river is the Anthony Bourdain recommeded Le Comptoir restaurant at Hotel du Relais. And all the boutiques and galleries of St. Germain and Latin Quarter within a short stroll. Location is excellent.

Rooms are clean. We stayed in a front street facing room in the past and this time received a courtyard room in the back. Both are great. The front rooms have tall windows and the back rooms are especially quiet. The rooms are super clean and nicely layed out to minimize noise from neighors. (Shared walls are bathrooms for example.) And either the sound insulation is superb or people are more quiet and considerate in French hotels. We had restful nights and didn't hear a peep from our neighbors. We woke up too late to enjoye breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that.

Front desk team is always helpful and friendly. And everyone spoke English as we only know enough French for polite introductions and greetings. What makes this hotel a stand out from the others we've stayed with is the excellent value. We book direct and received great rates. Relatively speaking, less than similar hotels and received what you would expect from a small quality Parisien hotel.

Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Front rooms have tall windows. Courtyard rooms are great for sleeping in,

Stayed here recently with my wife and couldn't fault the place or the service and support of the staff. Its tucked away just off the Boulevard St Michel close to the RER B station Luxembourg. Rooms are nice and clean although the carpet in our room was due for a clean but everything else was top notch. Breakfast area a little small inside but in good weather there is a nice internal courtyard to take breakfast which is typical for this style of hotel. Convenient for a large number of good quality and tourist restaurants closeby and after a few days you start to realise that places to visit are a nice walk away as well as jumping the Metro. Good to get orientated early in Paris !

Located in a narrow street just off Boul' Mich', near the Luxembourg RER (very convenient for arrival/departure at CDG or Gare du Nord), the hotel is in a renovated stone-built historic house. The reception area was attractive, with a small bar and sitting area: it's pleasant for a drink before going out but you wouldn't want to stay there for a long time. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms are individually decorated and furnished, not spacious but entirely adequate: ours had a small but well equipped bathroom with stylish fittings. Beds were comfortable, the room was warm. Noise from the street (e.g. noisy parties going home in the evening, lorries loading/unloading early in the morning, children going to a cinema show opposite) could be almost completely shut out by the double glazing. Breakfast was served for a long time in a small area near reception; we found it completely full when we arrived on one of the three nights we were there and had to wait, reading one of the free newspapers provided. (There is a small, pleasant interior courtyard with tables that could be used as overflow for breakfast in summer but we were there when it was too cold.) Breakfast was simple and traditional, with a selection of cold cuts, hard boiled eggs (soft on request), croissants, rolls, baguettes (pain d'hier on Saturday morning, rather dry).

Restaurants very nearby include Au Pere Louis (excellent), Le Petit Journal jazz club (fun), and many serving Japanese and American fast food, as well as run of the mill brasseries and bistros.

Access is possible by wheelchair, with a small lift to upper floors, but there are some steps, e.g. in going from the lift to some rooms - enquire.

Recommended.

Great hotel near by the Metro, and Luxemburg Garden. You can take the RER train directly from CDG to Luxemburg Metro stop. There are lots of great restaurants in the area, and there are a 15 minutes walk to Louvre. The rooms are nice and clean, and there is a cosy bar at the lobby. The staff is really helpful. Don't miss sitting and watching the locals in the Luxemburg Garden if it is a sunny day. We will stay there again next time we are I Paris.

The hotel is not very far from the main points in Paris. A calm street with some good Asian restaurants, a small but cosy room, attentious receptionists and a fair price made our stay in this hotel very pleasant.
