3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

We booked two rooms at Jardin de Villiers (total of about £800 for 3 nights) in June 2012 for myself and partner plus my partner’s parents (their first trip to Paris). Having stayed in the area on our last Paris visit, we chose this hotel based on the glowing reviews. The hotel is decent but the glowing reviews are a bit puzzling.

The immediate street to the hotel is not at all inviting and the building was undergoing building works so the façade was covered in scaffolding. However, there are very cool streets nearby which offer good shopping, restaurants and market stalls. Two metro stations are within a few minutes walking distance. The “entrance” and lobby of the hotel are uninviting and quite dated (coffee and pastries – leftover from breakfast no doubt- are available in the lobby all day though). The jardin, after which the hotel is named, was available to use but it was not the Paris oasis we expected and never used it.

The room has been updated with decent décor with large windows that when open let the Paris sounds in (we had no problem sleeping) although bland and very dark. Perhaps the rooms just looked better in comparison to the very, very dingy hallways? The bed was comfortable but nothing exceptional. The large bathroom had been partially updated too which left it looking mismatched between modern and old (not a good match)

Breakfast was simple but replenished throughout the morning and filled us up (choices of yogurt, pastries, coffee/tea/juice, cereals, fruit salad, and cheeses).

The staff was friendly but not overly so.

Overall and compared to the other hotel with the same rating that we stayed at previously, this hotel was a bit disappointing and although a decent hotel, there’s nothing that would take us back.

Dear Guest,

We have carefully read your comments. I'm sorry to hear that your stay was not successful.

The scaffolding is just temporary, i think if you come back without the scaffolding maybe you will don't have the same remarks.
.
We hope to see you next time so you can have a pleasant stay as the majority of our customers and those who left a comment on tripadvisor

Best regards

Have just returned from a lovely four day stay at this hotel. How lucky we were that our original trip was cancelled and we booked into this hotel (and saved nearly 50% of original trip cost). The hotel is an easy metro ride from Gare du Norde and has old world charm but does not lack modern facilities. The stairs and lift are so classically French! Each member of staff was friendly and helpful and we on our last day we were able to leave our luggage until we needed to get the metro back to the station. The buffet breakfast provided each day was served in an intersting cellar room and the choice was excellent. The area around the hotel has plenty of bars and restaurants and it is only a short walk to Parc Monceau. We chose to walk everywhere during our trip which took in many of the must see sights but transport links are good. We will hopefully go back later in the year when Montmartre is a little less crowded.

Room Tip: We were next to the lift but it didn't bother us .

We stayed three nights aty this comfortable well located hotel. Arrived a bit early on day 1 and only waited 20 mins for the room to become available. We walked into the city centre (25 mins) but Metroed back .The bus is also an good option but at weekends thew route is more circuitous.A good array of bar /restaurants in the vicinity provided evening meal opportunities. The hotel is v quiet and comfortable so much so that we overslept slightly and nearly missed breakfast. It is also convenient for Montmatre( bus 30 on Blvd Batignolles or the Metro) a short stroll from the hotel.
The room was good for a short break tourist base ,the bed was comfortable and the bathroom adequate if on the bijou size( a bit bigger though than the bathroom we encountered the previous night at the Mapledon in London). It has tea/coffee facilities in the room and a mini bar + room service if required from reception but we did not use it.
The breakfast room is a bit small and filled up quickly but one can take food out into the garden for open air eating. The provisions,( the usual baguette/croissant/pain au chocolat and apple turnover + bread for toast ,yogurt ,fruit ,cereal juice, tea /coffee etc ) were quickly replenished by attentive staff.
Staff were friendly and helpful .
The scaffolding at the front but no work was being carried out as we were there from Friday pm to Monday am.
Overall, a very acceptable good value base for rest after long days visiting the sights.

We spent a wonderful week in Paris in the middle of July. The hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming and the concierges spoke very good english. Since it was our honeymoon and also our first visit to Paris, we asked the helpful concierge if he could book us a table in a romantic restaurant we had picked out. He was very kind and made us a reservation the same day. All in all the hotel was cosy and very clean, our room was cleaned every day (also the towels were changed). We stayed in the first floor, but there was practically no traffic sounds whatsoever. Our stay included a breakfast, which was quite simple but good (coffee, tea, cereal, yoghurt, juice, bread and croissants), the lady serving breakfast was very friendly, though didn't speak english. The location of the hotel was perfect - quiet, very easy to get to the center (either walking or by metro) and lots of restaurants, cafes, post office, ATM, etc. We had a lovely time at Jardin de Villiers and would recommend it warmly!

We've stayed a couple of days with my wife and enjoyed this lovely and cosy hotel next to "rue Levy" in the 17th district of Paris. Very quiet. Two min away from "Metro Villiers", an ideal spot to visit Paris especially the upper side of the city, parc Monceau, champ Élysées, Opera, Tuileries ... etc.

My partner and myself spent 5 nights in this hotel in the middle of July. The location of the hotel is brilliant. On the first day we made it to the Arc De Triumphe within 20 minutes. The metro station (Villiers) is less than 10 minutes walk away. The locale of the hotel is fantastic, lots of places to eat etc. The room was a decent size (for Paris) and was very clean.

There were two negatives to the hotel, one minor and one a slight niggle. The latter was the lack of meat in the continental breakfast. It was otherwise nice. Quite basic. The minor complaint was that we found that the receptionists were often on personal calls. We also experienced the reception/front door was locked at random times of the day. We arrived back at the hotel on a Thursday afternoon (4pm) and were locked out of the hotel for 10 minutes. The receptionist opened the door (after much buzzing from my partner!) and had no apology or explanation for the wait. It was very odd.

However, I would definitely recommend this hotel. It was very comfy and clean.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your comment.
We are glad that you will enjoy your stay in our hotel. Yes, we are close to the Arc de Triomphe and it's a typical parisian area.
Sometimes we are alone at the reception and we need to close the door if we need to help an other guest to open a safe in him room ...
Thank you for theses informations, we will continue to improve our service.
We will hope to welcoming you a next time

sincerely

sebastien
