“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend a 3 nights in july 2013. The rooms aren't that big, but since we were in Paris to enjoy the city, it didn't matter - we only were at the hotel for sleeping.
The staff on Hotel des Ecrivains were very nice to us, and English speaking.
The room was cleaned everyday and we came home to a made bed and clean towels.
The free WiFi were a 100% functional - not as fast as I'm used to, but the connection was good.
The bathroom was nice and clean and had a nice shower cabinet - the water temperature was easy to adjust. Only negative thing about the bathroom was the bad airing/ventilation. The only way to prevent the bathroom from becoming damp/moist was opening the windows and the door to the bathroom for about 15-20 minutes.
The bed was very nice to sleep in.
The windows were nicely soundproof, so no noises slipped through to us during the night.
The breakfast were a 100 % okay, but a bit expensive, I think. In Paris you have many possibilities, and there are cafés on every corner, if not more. In many small cafés you can get a petit dejeuner (breakfast) almost similar to the one on the hotel for 5 - 6 euros per person instead of the 9 euros per person we had to give out on the hotel.
As a plus there were to metro stations just near the hotel - Place d'Italie and Les Gobelins - and with few shifts, we go everywhere in Paris from these two.

In conclusion a nice hotel in a nice area - most certainly worth the money spent. And if you are looking for at budget place to stay in Paris while enjoying the city, I would recommend Hôtel des Ecrivains.

The hotel has been refurbished recently, although the front has not been changed yet. The name on the front still reads hotel Des arts and doesn't reflect the lovely refurbished inside of the hotel.
The reception area is nice and clean and our room was of good size (much bigger than we expected) and very nice and clean too. The stairs look as though they have not been refurbished yet but that didn't,t bother me or my boyfriend.
The location is great, with several metro stations near by and the closest having three metro lines stopping there. The latin quarter and Notre Dame is within walking distance, although we did not discover this until out final day. We had bough a 5 day metro ticket online before our trip and made very good use of this.
The staff are all friendly. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, instead there is a lovely restaurant next to the hotel serving breakfast (bread, croissant, jam, butter, orange juice and a hot drink) for 5.50 euro. Also there is a bakery near. There are plenty of pizza places near by and in the latin quarter (about 10/15 min walk or 2 min on metro) there are plenty of restaurants and bars. This hotel was perfect for our stay in Paris and i would defiantly stay again.

Room Tip: I have read in other reviews the rooms are small, so i expected a tiny room (like one i stayed in Lo...

Went on a three day vacation to Paris and booked this hotel via hotel.com.

Found distinct positives and negatives about the hotel -
Positives -
1. Very good location - It is walking distance to Metro and falls under Zone 1/2 so the metro tickets to center of Paris are cheap.
2. Free Wifi - generally Wifi is not free in most budget hotels but was free here inside the rooms too.
3. The rooms are well equipped. The staff was also cordial and polite.
4. The rooms were made and cleaned in a timely manner.

Negatives -
1. The size is pretty small, from the corridors, to the rooms and the elevator. Space is at a premium.

I was out sight-seeing for a majority for the day and just needed a comfortable place to sleep. The hotel aptly provided that.

We stayed here for a long weekend break last Nov (2012).
The hotel was clean and well maintained. There is free wifi which was excellent.
Breakfast was busy! But if you had time to enjoy it then everything was replenished and the food was lovely and fresh. Staff were friendly, knowledgable and willing to suffer my attempts to speak their lingo.
Admittedly the rooms were on the small side. But they were functional and big enough for 2 - not a couple. Would liked the bathroom to have been a bit bigger so I didn't bang my head on the opposite wall when I stood up from the toilet! Would also have been nice to have a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
Excellent location - 2 metro stations within a 5 min walk, plenty of local shops and cafes, and a a short walk from the Latin Quarter.

I'd definitely recommend the hotel to others and I hope to visit it again myself.

Charming hotel located close to the heart of Montmartre but far enough away from the main tourist trail. Rooms a little small and the breakfast buffet can be a bit busy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Shops, restaurants, bars, metro, all nearby; it's Amelie territory - very French. We've stayed several times in Paris, usually trying out different areas; next time though we will come back here.

A very nice hotel, near the subway station. Good neighbourhood, nice staff and very well decorated rooms. A lot of shops and restaurants near it. Also there is a police station across the road if it makes you feel more safer :)

stayed with my wife for two nights... hotel looks dated and old from outside as from inside as well, guys at reception were really nice and spoke english as well so no problems communicating, area around is great just 5 min walk to the nearest tube station and 5 min to get to the rue de gobellin with lots of nice shops and coffee places (half hour to get to latin quarter full of nice restaurants and not far away from pantheon)... room was small, but reasonable size for a couple with a tv and closet... the problem is bathroom, really tiny so when u sit on the toilet you hit with your knees the sink, shower was small as well and not the cleanest one (mauldy around some bits) there was a giant leak on the ceiling as well... if the hotel and the rooms would get the much needed facelift it would be a great place in a beatiful area (even thou we noticed quite a lot homeless people around the tube, but as well in whole paris) at affordable prize!
