“Chic hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

My partner and I stayed at the Bel Ami for three nights towards the end of March. The hotel is located in St Germain on Rue San Benoit, just off the Boulevard St Germain and is two or three minutes walk from St Germain des Pres Metro station. This provides an excellent base from which to get around Paris and one of the L'Open Tour buses (the Orange line) stops very close to the Hotel. All the major sites are within walking distance of the hotel; for example, the Musee D'Orsay is around 15 minutes away and Notre Dame is a 20 minute stroll.

The hotel is stylish and modern. All the staff are very helpful and speak many languages. They could not do enough to make our stay more pleasant. Only a complete buffoon would make a mistake when entering the code in the safe in the room but the reception staff were immediately on hand to rectify the problem for us; by us, I mean me! The Concierge desk staff are also willing to help in any way they can such as by booking restaurants and making recommendations. The service we experienced was second to none.

The room is perhaps small which is something other reviewers have pointed out but we have come to expect this in Europe and so for us that is not much of a consideration. If there is a criticism of the room I would say that there was a lack of shelf and drawer storage space, though again for us that is a minor issue. The bathroom was fine and the shower superb. The corridors have a very pleasant aroma as you stroll down them towards the lifts. Needless to say, the hotel was spotless.

We had breakfast one day in the Hotel restaurant. It provided a wide range of choice, more than you will get in most cafes. As well as the usual croissants, preserves, cold meats, cheese and cereals there were hot dishes of bacon, scrambles eggs, mushrooms and diced potato.

There are some good cafes and restaurants nearby. Directly opposite is the famous Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote, at the top of Rue San Benoit on the Boulevard St Germain is Cafe de Flores and almost next door to this is Cafe de Deux Magots. The last two are probably overpriced but a few minutes walk away, in the back streets and thus off the tourist trail, is Rue Guissade. Two bistros on this street which are not formal or pricey but which serve great food and offer superb value are La Boussole and La Bastide D'Opio. The ambience in these restaurants is wonderful and we enjoyed a great meal in each. Both are worth seeking out.

Next time we visit Paris we shall choose the Bel Ami as our hotel and I have no hesitation in recommending it. We enjoyed a marvellous stay at this chic establishment.

We've stayed at several properties in Paris...in the 1st, the 3rd, the 6th, and the 7th. Given that, I must say that we found Bel-Ami's location to be ideal. All major sites are within walking distance. The staff, as well as the lobby, are elegant, stylish, smart, and inviting. I'm a true lover of the City of Light, and Bel-Ami is an example of why. Our stay was a slice of modern Paris from start to finish. The room was spacious (by Paris standards). The buffet in the mornings was a beautiful selection of all things French. The concierge staff was exceedingly helpful with suggestions, advice, questions, etc. Without a doubt, given the opportunity, we would not hesitate to return to this lovely place on the Left Bank.

Room Tip: I'd suggest booking a mid-range category if you can. My experience is that room size increases...

The location in S- Germain, 2 minutes walking to Place S. Germain des Près is Fantastic. We are 10 m walking to louvre 20 m walking to NOTRE DAME, et le quartier LatIN si prés. 10 EUR to take a taxi to Tour Eiffel. You have great places to eat around, you can have a drink in THe Pub S. Germain ( try champagne or Scorpion )....Fell the night time of one of the best placesof Paris. Full of Young people night get a beautifil life even . Les deux Magots et Flore sont á 3 minutes of the Hotel. You have flowers market, food marcket great cheeses all just over there. The Hotel is a boutique hotel with ecologist concerns but without take you anything of pleasure. The bed have a big size and great to sleep well, The bathroon is good enought and very modern. Ok I agree that the room is not big but the fact is that bed is really king size- Stuff is really friendly . Good cleaness. The Breakfeast is not to expensive is normal...is the street price... Youcan take it between 6,30 until 10 am. A very good spirit cross the space and people. I will return agian...I love S, Germain Zone. I would love to live there

I stayed at the Bel-Ami for a 4 night business trip. My room was small but nicely appointed. The breakfast buffet was small but lovely. The hot chocolate was delicious! The location is absolutely perfect - right by delicious cafes and walking distance to a ton of sights. The staff was excellent and all spoke English. One complaint - I did not like that I couldn't turn off the heat in the room. When opening the window I discovered that if the window was opened the tiniest bit, the heat would automatically shut off.

Room Tip: My room was right off the elevator on the 4th floor. Since there was a 2nd door inside the room, I...

This trip was our second visit to Hotel Bel Ami. We were here for a week. Once again we encountered superior service, a lovely and quiet room, amazing breakfasts, and extraordinary dining for dinner. The hotel has recently opened for dinner, and the food is spectacular. The hotel is in the heart of our favorite part of Paris, and you can walk to the best cafes, restaurants, shopping, dining, and metro. The hotel and the neighborhood are calm and elegant.

The bar in the hotel is great for relaxing after a long day of sight-seeing with good drinks and snacks, and I also had a massage at the hotel spa, which was marvelous after walking all over Paris all day.

The staff is heavenly, I want to mention Stefanie, Simon and Alex who made sure our stay was perfect. Vive le "Bel Ami"!!

You can't beat the location. Right by l'eglise St Germain you will be within walking distance of everything on the left bank, and a long romantic walking distance from most things on the right. Rooms were clean, noise-free, and just the right Parisian size. The hospitality impeccable. Everyone speaks English. Try the Jazz club right by it. Alas, it is as expensive as the rest of the city. Luckily you won't feel the burn in your pocket in the scented Parisian air.

If you want to stay @ St Germain; Bel Ami is one of the best options. We loved our stay. St. Benoit st. is not noisy, therefore pick one of the rooms facing the street. Cafe de Flore, Brasserie Lipp, Cafe Deux Margot and - very handy - the underground station (St Germain) are all very close to the Hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the back, otherwise you will end up facing the wall of a building/house next door...
