Very Disappointed!
We booked this hotel for July 2012 and upon arrival were sorely
disappointed. This hotel appears worn, dated, and without up-keep.
Room furniture was cracked or broken, view was horrible, tile in
shower was cracked, carpets were dated, and hallway was dark and
scary. The room lacked décor and basically had a drab, second-hand
consignment store feel to it.
Let me start by saying I have been to Europe at least a half a dozen
times and stayed in Paris once before, so I feel my expectations were
realistic, but even so, I was very disappointed with this hotel. I
will breakdown my comments below.
NEIGHBORHOOD:
While it is an overall nice area where the Madeline is located with
shopping, pharmacies, etc, the neighborhood seems to be deteriorating
and there are sex shops lining the street/block this hotel is on.
LOBBY/HALLWAY
While the lobby was pleasant and gave a good first impression, we took
the elevator to our room which opened to a dark, claustrophobic
hallway painted in deep, deep pink with dark maroon edging.
ROOM:
The room was dated and showed obvious signs of wear and decay.
The plastic/lacquer side tables were riddled with chips, the walls
were scuffed above the headboard.
The carpet was a multicolored mess that had definitely seen better days.
The bench at the foot of the bed was so rickety we were afraid to put
a suitcase on it, much less sit on it.
The glass table had a corner that was clearly broken off.
VIEW:
The view (or lack thereof) was of industrial rooftops and air
conditioning units and other buildings. I believe other reviewers have
posted them on this site.
BATHROOM
The bathroom was more updated with recessed lighting with large
counter space and even a towel warmer. However, but even these
improvements were done in a shoddy fashion. There was a large crack
down the tile where the showerhead was retro-fitted and looked like it
was going to fall out of the wall any second.
CLOSET:
The wardrobe was small and there was no place to hang clothes since
the entire bottom of the closet was taken up by the fridge that
constituted the “mini-bar.” There was a safe in the room, however, it
was quite small and only big enough for wallets/passports. Usually I
can store my cameras/Ipads in the room safe, but not here.
TV:
The flat screen TV only received 2 or 3 channels and only those in
French.
There is no free wifi,
BREAKFAST:
To be fair, the breakfast room was nice, neat, clean and offered a
good assortment of foods for a “continental” breakfast. No complaints
here. Also, the staff was very polite, helpful and professional. No complaints there either.
COMPUTER ACCESS:
In the lobby there is a computer to use, but you must go to the desk,
get a “code” punch it in (on a French keyboard which take a little
longer if you are not used to one) and then you are on the internet –
again with a very slow connection. After 15 min it times you out, you
loose your work and you must go to the desk and get another “code.”
Rediculous. And for all this they were charging over 300 Euro/night!
We checked out and found a lovely Best Western a block away that was infinitely newer, larger, cleaner and nicer, with a
lovely view and free WiFi, unlimited access to a computer in the lobby
– ALL for a full 100+ euro less per night than Hotel Vignon!
