LOCATION: All the reviewers mention the proximity of metro Villiers at the end of the rue de Levis market street. However, if you prefer to take buses and see where you are going above ground, just walk up the rue Legendre to rue de Rome, take the bus from there down to the Gare Saint Lazare (or simply walk to the Gare Saint Lazare) and you will find a large selection of buses taking you everywhere you could possibly want to go . Also very do-able is the 10 minute walk up to the Parc Monceau where there is a metro and a bus. Or walk through the park, then exit from the Avenue Hoche park gate and walk up to the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees. It took me 1 hour and 10 minutes to walk at a comfortable pace from the hotel to the Louvre and in France I am considered a "senior." And of course in the other direction, it's an easy walk to Montmartre, Opera, etc .
FRIENDLINESS: Other reviewers seemed to have had problems, but I found the staff very friendly, courteous, and willing to go out of the way to be helpful--on all shifts.
AMENITIES: If you're out seeing the sights all day long and just need a basic functional tiny room to crash in -- it's fine. Mini refrigerator and wi-fi in the room and a tiny antiquated TV that worked. And there is a very clean laundromat nearby in the rue Legendre open 7 days a week until late at night with instructions in both French and English.
DOWNSIDE: Well, yes -- bedspreads, wallpaper, carpet, chair, etc. -- pretty used and rundown as has been commented on in most of the postings. ( But the location outweighs this for me.) Also-- the rooms are supposed to be nonsmoking but mine distinctly smelled of cigarette smoke a few times when I came back and one day I found cigarette butts amongst the red geraniums growing in the flower box on the window railing. so that explained the smell of smoke.
I would not pay the full price posted on the door for the room I had but I reserved several months ahead of time and got a 20% discount. If I can do that again, I will definitely be going back -- love the location.
