“Be careful - the walls are very thin!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2007

A nice little hotel in a good left bank location within walking distance of the shops of Rue Du Bac and the Latin Quarter. The staff were lovely, but the hotel is missing that certain something. Rooms are ok, fairly decent size but the decor is a bit on the bland side. Bathrooms are nicely decorated. I guess I wasn't left feeling like I had to return - but it wasn't terrible either.

The restaurant is very fiddly and it's a mistake to have this as the only restaurant in the hotel. We avoided eating there because of the over complicated menu and the strange seating layout.

Beware though - the walls are paper thin, I lay in bed listening to a couple having extremely noisy night time activity on frequent occassions during my stay...

We had a lovely stay at the Pont Royal. The rooms were well decorated, and very clean. The service was perfect with every request granted quickly and with a smile. Highly recommended.

This is our third stay at Hotel Pont Royal and we did not regret a moment of our stay. The hotel staff are helpful, courteous and willing to go the extra mile. The value, the location and small size of the hotel are perfect for a more personal touch. We have stayed at The Ritz and InterContinnetal amongst other finer hotels of the world; while the Ritz is over the top, it has nothing on Hotel Pont Royal when it comes to service.

As a woman, the only amenity they lack is a real hair dryer. The one on the wall just doesn't cut it!

I highly recommend Hotel Pont Royal as it makes you feel at home. New York is where I live, Paris is my home.

Our travel agent said this was a great value at 330 EU per night and we were promised a deluxe room with breakfast included , and we were advised to book quickly. The room was so incredibly small with a closet fit for a child. My husband and I found fitting into these accomodations was like working a puzzle. The room was poorly air conditioned. The bathroom was adequate. Despite the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, the maid either rang the phone or knocked on the door, thus disturbing a late afternoon nap. Breakfast was so poor that we chose not to eat the following four mornings in the hotel and instead ate in cafes on Saint Germain - a five minute walk from the hotel. The head concierge was indifferent and clearly was working to accomodate his business clientele instead of those on holiday, and even when assisting business people, we observed a poor attitude, often going through his bookings centerstage with no regard for those around him. We travel often and this was an unimpressive experience in a beautiful city.

  • Liked — the bellman upon arriving at the hotel

A travel agent referred us to the Pont Royal as we were looking for a slightly bigger room to accomodate our 11 year old son and all I can say is THANK YOU! We cancelled our reservation at the American chain hotel we were booked into and stayed 5 nights in the junior suite at the Hotel Pont Royal. Everything at this hotel is perfect, from the location to the service to the beautiful lobby. Our junior suite was ready at 10:30 on the morning of the arrival, and the concierge called on our check out day to tell us not to rush and to take until 2:00 if we needed. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, with omelettes made to order, pastry, coffee, fruit, juice, etc. Yes, it was 25 euro but was a perfectly reasonable spread and I paid 13 euro for a croissant and cafe creme at a cafe most mornings. The room was immaculate, had an in room safe and plasma screen TV, and the bathroom spotless with marble floors, showers, and plentiful water.

The hotel is in walking distance (maybe 15-20 minutes) to the Lourve, Musee D'Orsay, the Cluny, St. Germain-des-Pres cafes, and a little further to the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and Sainte Chappelle. Within two blocks of the hotel you will find bakeries, a small grocery store, pharmacies, linen and clothes shops, a wine shop, and a cheese store. A few more blocks will lead you to the Latin quarter and even a Lauderee outpost.

You will love this hotel-it is not glamerous like George V or Plaza Athenee but is very comfortable and accomodating.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Pont Royal on our honeymoon. The rooms were small, but since we're from NYC we are used to that! The hotel was clean and the staff was so friendly. I loved how cleaning staff would pop their heads out of rooms to say "bonjour" as we walked by. There was such a warm feeling in the hotel. The location was also amazing. I would highly reccomend the hotel, and can't wait to go back!

I almost spent the best part of my first year of marriage looking for a hotel for our 1st anniversary trip, having heard stories of small, gaudy rooms with below par customer service, i was almost over cautious about where we stayed, wanting a perfect trip, traditional yet contemporary, within distance to great romantic strolls and fine cafe's, one may almost say i was being too picky.. i thought so to, then came along pont royal, the minute we got there we were in awe, a short walk from rue de bac (absolutely crucial, since its by far the cheapest, quickest and easiest way to get around), the lobby was carpeted with marble with a very luxurious feel to it, the concierge and reception desk were great, got into our room, yes was small BUT was perfect, extremely comfortable bed, great bathroom/shower amenties and a small balcony where we had an ample view.. We had breakfast once at the hotel the25euro breakfast buffet was a bit of joke although we did try the a la carte once which was reasonalbe, breakfast was regularly indulged in at a cafe close to the river, sensational! The hotel has everything, swift and friendly service, a 5 minute walk to the river, a less then 10 minute walk to the Louvre, less then ten to the batobus (good weather?definitely a good way to get around). Paris can be a gamble, the pont royal ensures you're on to a sure thing! Thumbs up all the way! Enjoy the pics!

  • Liked — The hotel itself and the walks were the best feature!
  • Disliked — No room WI-FI
  • Tips/Secrets — The road leading up to the river the cafe with the open front and black tables, omelette to die for!
