Paris IS expensive at the moment, mainly because of the poor exchange rate against sterling and the dollar, so just be prepared to pay more than you expect. The Pont Royal is not a bargain, but I thought it was good value considering the location, size of rooms, the quality of the accommodation, and the excellent service we got.
We had 2 deluxe rooms, well furnished, which were large by Paris standards and had room for easy chairs and a writing desk. The staff were very polite and helpful, offered to speak French or English as we preferred, and offered us maps and hotel umbrellas on a rainy day. They also recovered and returned property we had left behind!
We had hotel breakfasts in the deal, and the buffet had everything you would expect in a British hotel, plus proper croissants!
The Pont Royal is 5 mins walk from the Seine, and less than 10 mins from both the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay, so we walked everywhere instead of taking the metro. The neighbourhood is very good, with interesting shops, and Bon Marche is 10 mins walk away.
Our best local meal was at L'Epi Dupin (wonderful food for 34 euros) but you must book, and the salted caramel icecream at Berthillaud's in the Ile St Louis is amazing.

We bought an Expedia package for Christmas in Paris. I chose Hotel Pont Royal for the location. It was a great choice! We could easily get anywhere we wanted on the metro (stop located one block away). The room was well kept and appointed. The staff was wonderful. This was the best we have ever been treated while in Paris. The restaurant associated with the hotel was expensive but good. We enjoyed the unusual bar setting which lends itself for visiting with others and sharing stories--which we did. If you stay on the 6th floor or higher, you can look out your window and see the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Cour, and the top of the Orsay in panorama (see photos). There was no street noise but the walls are a little thin. Air and heat was quiet. Perfumed halls. We will definitely stay there on our next trip. We found the best food and least expensive can be found at restaurants around the Arc de Triomphe and its connecting streets. The worse part of the trip was having to give the cab driver 60 Euros for a ride to Charles De Gaulle.

Not my choice to stay here. Good location, but very expensive. This was my first time in Paris and we spent most of our time out of the room which was double the price of every other hotel I was considering. Not good value for a place to sleep. Paid 9 Euros for a bottle of beer in the bar!

We ate one dinner in the Atelier du Joel Robichaud next door which was also wickedly expensive and not worth it.

Staff helpful and had a nice fitness room that looked like it was never used.

If I won the lottery, I would stay here again.

Fab hotel - stayed for our anniversary- the room was nice if very compact- deluxe room- would hate to see what the other rooms were like. Never ate couldnt get a reservation at the over priced and up its self restaurant ( you even have to sit on bar stools). Get the concierge to book you a meal somewhere - he booked us into a fine place.

Overall good hotel, quiet rooms, good beds, clean, free internet good location and nice staff.

Only downside- bar prices a bit steep my bar bill was £298 ouch but i did have a few brandys and stupidly drank the champers in the room. But hey ho! or should i say HIC!

I "overnight" in Paris on a regular basis, and have done as a Europe wide business traveller for years. I love Paris, its my favorite city in Europe, by why am I so often dissapointed with the hotels. I accept that on the whole they are of more "compact" proportions than hotel in most cities in Europe and the US, but its not the small size, its the mean and minimal standards that lets them down.

Thank goodness then for the HPR. Truly a joy of a small hotel in a fantastic district - with everything on your doorstep.

You are greeted at a real reception desk, with professional and courteous reception staff. I was a little before check in time, but after a prompt phone call to housekeeping and a few minutes sat waiting in their bar area, I was presented with my room key and escorted to a very nice Deluxe room on the second floor. It was clean, bright, modern and fresh decor, and a comfortable bed -albeit two singles pushed together, but then like the minimal space around the bed - its no more than you come to expect.

The bathroom however more than made up for that. Full size bath, glass shower screen and curtain so the floor doesn't get flooded from the good size and performance shower head. Thers's a large, well lit mirror, an illuminated shaving mirror, good set of toiletries and a quality towels and bathrobe....I'm very happy and can now get on with my day - which I should add is made all the easier by the free of charge Internet access, so thats already a saving of €25 a night you can deduct from the room charge.

It was more expensive than I would normally pay for, and it was 10 minutes extra out of my way, but the location, the internet access included and sheer pleasure of a comfortable nights sleep...I know where I'm staying next time when I'm in Paris. My only reservation wth giving it a 5/5 review...is that becomes popular and I will never be able to get a booking! :-)
