“Did the job. Some reservations and some positives.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Every year we take a group of school children to Paris for a few nights. This was the first year in this hotel as our previous Hotel increased rates.
I have to say that we were pretty pleased with this Hotel. It was close to a Metro station (Voltaire). It wasn't on a major, noisy road. It was relatively new and clean rather than some of the older, tired looking ones. The breakfast was very good and the quailty of food considerably better than the other hotel. Room sizes were very good for Paris.
Bathrooms were typically very small and it was physically very difficult to get into the shower (and I do not consider myself overweight!). However, the shower worked well and was clean which was better than the previous hotel.
The room had a safe (so not sure how another user has been robbed?) and also a flat screen tv.
One downside though, which I know is pretty bad, is that one of our students got bedbug bites. Basically, the hotel cleans and changes the white bed sheets, but the brown blanket on top of the bed did not look like they had been cleaned for a while. This student decided to sleep on top of the bed and was bitten multiple times. I think this is always a risk in any hotel and probably avoidable if you don't use the old blankets, but I can fully understand why this will put some visitors off.
Despite this, I would use this hotel again for our school visit. I would also recommend for people on a budget because it ticks a lot of boxes.

Old saggy mattresses, tiny tiny tiny rooms. Water bottle supplied on first day only, and vending machine in lobby was out of order. Everything is poorly cleaned by service carts that block the too narrow hallway. Breakfast plentiful but simple, was the only decent element of the stay.

At the third night we were robbed 400 euros room 601 and the next room 602 the were robbed with 1500 euros do not stay in this hotel

We were "told" that i man came in payed the night and left around 10 pm didnt sleep in the room they think it was him.

The hotel doesn't need any i.d just money so you can stay in it thats why it is not secure at all no security and the neighboorhood is full of bars and it gets pretty uggly at night

I stayed at this hotel for six nights it was the worst experience to start we arrived at our room and the first thing in our beds "hair" the room is very very different from the pictures shown in trip advisor, booking and expedia.

The elevator is way to small and oviously slow, the people working in the hotel had no proffesion, uniform etc...

Hotel is a 1 star. Rooms are poor quality. Our room 306 had a hole in the bathroom door looked like someone may have kicked it. The walls were dirty the sink piping disgusting. The bed spread dirty. We changed to 307 and it was the same poor quality. Hotel would be a weekly/ monthly renter in vancouver hastings street. My wife and I got out 15 minutes after arriving.

Room Tip: No way of knowing when you use companies like Hotwire. So if its in $100-199 in Paris it's poor...

I stayed five nights at this hotel and was disappointed with their service. The shower in my bathroom had very poor pressure, down to a dribble, and I asked the folks at the reception to do something about it... on three consecutive mornings. The staff dutifully wrote down my request each time and proceeded to do nothing about it.
The one older gentleman who staffed the reception overnight was also quite rude. He would disappear from the reception, and on two occasions, made me wait at the front door for about ten minutes before I was buzzed in and didn't even bother to apologize.
Other than these two issues, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the (rest of the) staff were friendly. The neighbourhood was not the most exciting in town, but was a couple minutes walk from two metro lines. Also close to the Pere Lachaise cemetery which is pretty cool.
I recommend skipping the 9-euro breakfast at the hotel and getting a nice breakfast for 5 euros at one of the cafes on Ledru Rollin.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with actual shower pressure!

start with the basic concept that unless you pay plenty, a Paris hotel is somewhere to sleep close to a metro. How many waking minutes do you actually spend in your hotel room in Paris?? This is a few minutes walk to voltaire metro which is on a convenient line. It was also only a pleasant 10 mins walk to Bastille and its open air sunday market. It is actually a local residential area (i.e. non-tourist) so fairly quiet and although on a main road the windows are double glazed and very effective. The exterior was being painted during our stay ( which we were aware of when booking). We had a look at some of the other rooms which are being currently renovated. I have to say our bathroom was tiny and poorly laid out - strictly a one person at a time bathroom and was the least impressive aspect. Room was clean and well serviced daily with towels and the photos on the website actualy reflected the rooms (not always the case in Paris). Bed comfortable.
Breakfast convenient and ok if you want it before you go out but nicer to go across or up the road for ambience at same cost.
Staff were to us at all times helpful and friendly - maps, info and transport - all spoke good English - luggage storage available prior to check in and departure with our very early (6.30am arrival) and late (9.50pm departure) I saw some of the other less complimentary reviews of this hotel which seem to be not objective vis a vis Paris. I have stayed in Paris hotels for over 30 years now all in this lower end and I must say that this is the first i would actually go back to . In summary basic but very good value.

Room Tip: end ones are best

The 'Grand' name of this hotel is quite inaccurate, and almost humorous. The hotel is small in size and consists of narrow, cramped corridors where the decor is dowdy and like something out of a 1970s bad dream sequence. The room was tiny with barely any room to maneuver and the bathroom was much the same. Obviously, for such a cheap hotel it was basic, but there was no air conditioning, and as we were staying here at the end of June 2012 in the blistering heat it got a bit unbearable at times. Had there been air conditioning it might have not been so bad, but there was a general sense of claustrophobia and it was hotter inside the hotel than it was outside. Of course, we weren't in the hotel much as we spent the days sightseeing in Paris, but it was unbearably hot at night and noisy, but that's just what comes with staying in a city. The staff were nice enough and the breakfast was very limited - but luckily I really like croissants. On the positive side, it was a two minute walk from the Metro Station, a stones throw away from a decent supermarket and had free wifi.

I've stayed in worse, but this was one of the bad ones and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, or stay again.
