“This cannot be a three star hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2011

The rooms are absolutely terrible, run down and not clean at all. They close the doors of the hotel early in the night and we were locked out of the hotel. Luckily the doorman woke up afterwe had been knocking on the door for about half an hour. Breakfast is served in a cellar, it is basically a croissant, some juice and tea or coffee. I was supposed to stay at the hotel longer but we changed our plans midway as it was impossible to stay there. The man at the front desk was nice and friendly. Hotel is not worth its rating as a three-star hotel.

This place is very old style, but there is free wi-fi.

The front deskman in the morning is personable. He speaks mandarin and french as well as answers questions accordingly. The man in the afternoon was very frustrating. He's spoke on the phone in Cantonese and when my parents tried to speak to him in Cantonese he would only respond in French. It's like he wanted to make things difficult. Even when asking about some of the features of the room he would wave his hand in the air and grumble. He was rude.

The room was just a room. It was an old late 80's feel with 90's pictures on the walls. Three beds with a security box and a closet with a fridge that did not keep anything cold. They had an old style hair dryer, it's literally a hose in the wall that blows air. The shower was very small and there was mold on the curtain, it was hard not to touch it and at one point the shower head all of a sudden moved and started shooting water above the curtain. I don't recommend this place if you have kids.

Again the room is just a room and it's like a 5 minute walk to the train station. It is also right next to the Parc des Buttes Chaumont which is pleasant to walk through since they have waterfalls and a pretty stone gazebo on the top of a cliff. Nothing felt dangerous about the park although I was only there at 8 AM.

There is a supermarket a block away, but be sure to bring your own plastic bag to carry stuff in as you have to pay per plastic bag taken. Additionally there is a pleasant bakery by the station 'Botzaris' which is about a 8 minute walk.

If you're looking for just a room then this place will suit you and it was pretty cheap by comparison. Never went out at night and was there for 2 days. It's not a relaxing room, but a roof over your head.
