When bringing my sweetie for her first visit to Paris, I wanted to have us stay in the Latin Quarter and find a place that was perfectly comfortable and pleasant without being extortionate. The hotel scene has changed massively since I first came to Paris 20 tears ago and the number of such hotels in the area has dwindled, but a good deal through an online booking site brought me to the Nations St Germain, which was exactly the type of hotel I was looking for. Sure the rooms are small and the breakfast overpriced, but both issues were easily surmounted. The smallness of the room was balanced with a good bed, a French balcony and a view of Rue Monge, a typically Parisian street. As for the breakfast, we opted for Le Petit Cardinal, a café 250 meters from the hotel which had a fabulous omelette, coffee and fresh orange juice breakfast for €9.50 as opposed to the hotel breakfast for €16. Aside from the furnishings, the location is superb, close to Metro, 20 mins walk from the RER train from Charles de Gaulle, and 2 blocks from the exquisite but chaotic Rue Mouffetard. A great place, particularly to experience Paris for the first time.
Room 35, where we stayed, seemed a little larger than the other doubles
