“slow start turned into great finish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Good reviews sent 4 Paris newbies here...we were the first customers at 7:30. By 8:00 the Neva was almost full with Paris business types. No English menu but one sort of brusk waiter turned us over to a very helpful waiter who explained the short menu... about 6 main courses. 2 chose the chicken (?) and 2 the cod. All starters, main courses and deserts were very good. The all inclusive was about 45 euros and did not include drinks. 4 satisfied travelers enjoyed the short walk back to the New Orient Hotel.

“What a disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Had dinner there last night, and what a disappointment it’s!
Wine: we ordered a Chablis Grand Cru, Vieilles Vignes which would have been very good had it not been lukewarm! After several unsuccessful attempts to get our waiter to put ice cubes in the wine cooler, we had to “raise it a notch” to finally get enough ice cubes from another waiter. By then, half a bottle had been wasted! It is rather surprising how a restaurant like this one could not have a sufficient number of chilled white wine bottles and then failed to take appropriate action and be so miserly with ice cubes!
Food:
First course: girolles, et tartare de daurade were good although the aioli (actually an emulsion with cream and garlic)which they hurriedly brought out a few minutes later, to go with the soupe de girolles so we were told, was too garlicky, and yet we like garlic. Presentation was very nice though.
Main dish: croustillant de ris de veau (add another 5 Euros) and John Dory.
Both dishes were way over cooked, and hence, too dry. The quality was there, but there’s an obvious lack of savoir-faire or care in cooking it. What a waste. The worst café in our neighbourhood would have done a better job. Even I could have cooked it better! I asked if it’s the Chef who cooked the ris de veau and the fish and was told it’s her second! From my seat I had a full view of the bar, entrance and part of the kitchen. The Chef was mostly busy standing in front of a board, with a black pen, crossing out dishes as they were brought out. She went out once, to a specific table. Probably to greet the regular patrons.
I counted 37 guests from the time we arrived, 20h45 to the time we left at about 22h15. There’re 2 waiters who seemed a bit distracted, but very available to those they know! The table to our left, a young Bristish couple, was left waiting for a good 20 minutes before some one took their order, another 15 minutes before they got their drinks and a good 20 minutes before some one came to clear out their first course! On the other hand the couple sitting to our right were regulars and every thing went swiftly for them!
We intended to try their signature desert but were so disappointed with the whole thing we decided to skip it and left, on a negative note. Went there because of positive reviews on this forum and others. Perhaps we were just the “unlucky” ones!

Service trop stresse, trop disparate. Deux serveurs pour 37 convives- entre 20h45 et 22h15
Conclusion: tres decus, malgre les bonnes appreciations du forum.

“Great meal!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

I went here with a coworker on a Monday night. The service was great, the wine was great (we had a Languedoc), the food was delicious. I had the ris de veau which I really liked - texture and flavor were just right. The side vegetables were well presented and fine, not fantastic. The chocolate sphere actually exceeded my expecations. Taste did not take a back seat to the flashy presentation. I was skeptical about the chunks of pineapple inside but all the tastes and textures worked perfectly together.

Great evening! Highly recommend!

“Pure Fantasy at Neva Cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

My wife and I and another couple splurged on a seven-day sojourn in August to Paris, including eating lunch or supper in twelve restaurants, almost all of them ranked among the top 150 eateries listed on the Trip Advisor.

August is a difficult month because many of the top restaurants in Paris are closed for vacations. Luckily, Neva Cuisine was open, we had reservations, and my food was superb. The restaurant has an unusual, triangular, wedge shape configuration, with a simple, rather stark, white interior which I found kind of restful. Our waiter was great and quite attentive, a master of his craft, My meal was flawless, starting with a wonderful ginger ravioli soup, a delicious veal main course, and a fantastic white meringue ball, sligthly larger than a tennis ball, that was filled with a delicious raspberry sauce. I have no idea what it was called but it was a pure fantasy. Neva should continue to offer it for the next hundred years! It was worth the trip to Paris.

My wife meal was great, too; with her fondness for fish. she had John Dory for her main course. The other couple split a steak which looked spectacular but was, alas, chewy. They gave me a piece and I agreed, it was chewy. Frankly, if you are accustom to eating at high end New York steak houses, give up and order the foods that Paris chefs excell at, and avoid ordering beef. It's that simple. We gave up beef dishes after about two or three
restaurants in Paris.

Cost of our meal was abour 50 euros per person, including one glass of white wine and a bottle of red.

I would rate Neva Cuisine among the top three restaurants that we visited in Paris. Enjoy. You won't regret it. And a reminder. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time.

“Fantastic Meal, Excellent Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

We had a fantastic meal here last night. The food was delicious, creatively prepared and presented, and, for what you get, reasonably-priced by Paris standards. The service was excellent, available but not pushy, The bonus was that it's a ten-minute walk from The New Orient Hotel, our fantastic hotel. Please try Neva if you get the opportunity. You won't regret it.
